Gorgeous! Perfect gift for South African lovers or just food lovers!,

This review is from: South African Illustrated Cookbook, The (Paperback)
Beautifully illustrated cookbook full of colourful South African dishes. I've tried the very tasty Peggy's Durban Lamb Breyani for a dinner party which went down very well, and the Splashy Fen Cheese scones turned out perfectly too. A traditional melktert is next on my list...The recipes are delicious and very easy to follow but the real selling point for this book are the gorgeously whimsical illustrations featuring South African landmarks and scenery. I have already bought this book as a gift for ex-pat South African friends and relatives. Highly recommended!

Great illustrations, disappointing recipes,
This review is from: South African Illustrated Cookbook, The (Paperback)
Great illustrations but there were very few traditional South African recipes so I'm quite disappointed with this book and wouldn't recommend it. Alot of the recipes are generic and could come from any country. There are definitely better SA recipe books out there, but they might not have the beautiful illustrations!

A delightful, practical art-work.,

The art of an experienced cook and talented illustrator are here combined in a book that stimulates one to try these original recipes while delighting the eye with witty, charmingly naive watercolours. Widely experienced as a professional actress and producer, now "resting" from the theatre to raise a family, Lehla Eldridge has tapped another cluster of talents to produce this happy product so successfully.A great present, we bought four for the family - but in Cape Town, where the price is a realistic £10!
