Zinc without copper likely contributed to spider and varicose veins 6 Mar 2012
By Jeri Zerr - Published on Amazon.com
Size Name:120 Tabs|Amazon Verified Purchase
It is well documented in nutrition informational sources zinc depletes copper. It is also not so well documented that copper is important to vein health; copper deficiency can cause spider veins, varicose veins and more importantly aneurysms.

However, not knowing this and living in our modern society, common seasonal illnesses often led my husband and I to use zinc losenges and Now Foods Elderberry & Zinc, 90 lozenges - elderberry is scientifically proven effective against many viral illnesses including influenza types A and B. However we both later suffered a crazy outbreak of spider and varicose veins, with 20/20 hindsight we finally realized our vein issues developed simultaneously after we began using zinc supplements, as needed.

We no longer experience the cold/flu season since we now maintain our vitamin D levels at the very high end of the normal range. Hence we now rarely use zinc supplements, and when we do, we take zinc with copper, such as available in Now Foods Opti L-Zinc, 100 caps / 30mg ( Multi-Pack).

We both noticed our spider and varicose veins stopped getting worse, but.... Now what to do about our existing situation?? We began supplementing with occasional copper... one day I noticed several of the smaller spots were mostly faded/resolved. A few months ago we both added this copper supplement to our daily supplementation. Virtually all of our spider veins have faded and reduced in overall size; my one remaining varicose vein no longer bulges and is smaller in overall size.

We did not change any other habit that could have explained the obvious vein improvement in both of us. I have ordered another bottle, I will post an update as our situation changes.

For more information on the zinc / copper relationship as well as the copper deficiency situation that cause the 1950s outbreak of aortic anuerysms in the turkey industry that was attributed directly to a copper deficiency in the modified turkey feed used on farms, read the works of Dr. Joel Wallach DVM, ND and his wife Dr. Ma Lan MD, OMD including Dead Doctors Don't Lie, Hell's Kitchen: Causes, Prevention and Cure of Obesity, Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome, and Black Gene Lies. Another great book by this dynamic duo husband and wife team is Immortality.

Zinc depletes Copper and other info 26 Mar 2011
By Jeri Zerr - Published on Amazon.com

Per Dr. Joel Wallach, DVM and ND, in the highly regarded zoological tome Diseases of Exotic Animals, copper deficiency is indicated externally by kinky white hairs and internally by aneurysms as realized by the turkey farm industry in the 1950s. When they failed to include enough copper in the commercial animal feed the turkeys all died from aneurysms wiping out the turkey supply until they reintroduced adequate amounts of copper back into the commercial turkey feed.

Zinc is known for depleting copper. When we needed to ramp up on zinc we made sure we ramped up on an appropriate amount of copper, as well. This product seems to be a good source of copper at a reasonable price.
