I got this book for recipes for the Morphy Richards 'jug-style' soup maker. The first recipe tried was creamy mushroom soup. It said to add all ingredients (including 1/2 pint milk) except the cream and select smooth. After a few minutes the soup maker cut out and reset again after a few minutes. Then kept on doing this. Needless to say I was cursing the machine for being useless... until the milk boiled over. It was then I had a duh moment. Of course milk boils up! But why didn't Norma think of this or maybe even test her recipe.

The contents were put into a saucepan and made the traditional way keeping a close eye on it in case it boiled over.

Meanwhile the bottom of the soup maker was covered in burnt gunge which took ages to clean.

Nowhere in the recipe or the book does it say not to add milk. My tip - don't Norma.

Some other recipes were good. But then, tried leek and potato and Norma says to add the cornflour mix at the start. More burnt offerings at the bottom. Add the cornflour at the end Norma. The minestrone was ghastly. I'm intrigued by the Nettle soup and really want to try it, but will leave out the flour Norma. And don't add oil to every recipe Norma.

All in all, some good recipes, which gets it an extra star, but badly let down by the fact they are not tested in a jug style soup maker.

So, if you like a burnt gungy mess at the bottom of your soup maker, this is the recipe book for you!

[Edit] see my comment. After giving Norma a second chance nearly a year later, she blew it big time! Now only one star.

This is a decent soup recipe book with lots of good soup options. However, I do feel it is not necessarily the best one out there (see review for The Skinny Soup Maker Recipe Book). My big peeve is the kindle version has no list of all the soups, just a quick jump menu to different types of soup. This is quite frustrating in first world problem kind of way. In addition some of the recipes were more complex than I wanted, put ingredients in soup maker, turn on, wait, pour, was what I wanted. Not brown this, squeeze that, wait for the other.
Overall it is a good book, but considering it is for a no fuss gadget like the soup maker, it is too much hard work.
