Product Description

Review

'What could be better than a recipe book from New Covent Garden Food Co? It's not a book of recipes for the soups they sell, but a series of recipes from their staff which will take you, as the title says, through all occasions. As a traditionalist I did wonder if I would really take to soup at breakfast or as a pudding, but I was soon won round... Some recipes are absolute gems - simple to make and delicious to eat.'

Book Description

There are so many occasions when soup is just the right dish that New Covent Garden felt compelled to share some more of their secrets in this fourth collection of their recipes. Soup for All Occasions will provide you with novel ways to nourish children, satisfy a huge family gathering or impress dinner guests. A handful of recipes in this collection stretch the definition of a soup. Some are one-pot meals; others desserts or even breakfasts. But the majority are still what New Covent Garden do best - soups that are perfect for nutricious lunches, family picnics, Christmas parties or informal dinners. You'll find inspiration here if you're stuck for a romantic idea for Valentine's Day, if you'll be spending the afternoon freezing on a touchline or if Mum's just announced she's coming round to visit. Whatever the occasion, there's a soup to match: easy to make, good to eat and fun to serve.

i have all the other books and wondered whether or not i would use this one, the answer is yes and in case you are wondering the recipes are pretty close to the cartons in the shops only better and cheaper.the first two ive tried are the smoked ham chowder and the tomato (kids) soup and they are pretty good. well worth the fourth investment in this series.

I am a soup enthusiast and obtain my inspiration for soup making from the New Covent Garden Soup series as they all contain superb recipes which take into account seasonal availability of vegetables. This latest book in the series is no exception and has a good mix of recipes for everyday meals as well as innovative recipes for dinner parties.

Having only recently ventured into the realm of soup making, and liking the NCG cartons, when I saw this on Amazon I thought I should give it a try. I brought it into work and it did the rounds of the office before I could get my mitts on it. The first soup I made was the Beetroot Lemon and Chive - delicious, I was smiling as I ate and was on a beetroot high all through my night shift. I'm an addict. Creamy chicken soup is lovely too.

But don't expect just soups. I have been looking for a good recipe for beef stroganoff - its in here. As are a few classics (eg leek & potato), twists on classics (broccoli & stilton), alcoholic treat, dessert and a cheat section when pushed for time.

The only criticism I have is I would like advice on freezing suitability for some of the soups. But I can forgive this minor oversight.

The first few recipes are for 'soup' designed to be eaten for breakfast - they are unusual and not what I expected to find. However when you get into the other sections the interesting choice of ingredients combined with the simplicity of the receipes makes this a good choice for anyone keen on soup and one-dish style receipes. This is quite a slim volumn and I did expect a few more pages.

There a lot of soup books out there but the range of new covent garden ones are by far and away the best. I think their secret is that as they are in the business of making great soups, all recipes are tested and trialled as part of their business and not just for the sake of writing a book. I have the other 3 books and all are different, with not one poor recipe yet. This one links to the occasions that you can eat soup. Its pumpkin season at the moment and the halloween soup recipes are great. It doesn't have any pictures of the finished recipe but I think that its not needed when it comes to soup. Its going to be a few peoples christmas presents this year.

Perhaps I bought an out of date copy but I have tried to make 3 soups so far from this book and was only able to make two due to ingredients being mentioned in the method but not in the ingredients list. Would anyone be able to tell me how much double cream is in the "Creamy Chicken" recipe? This is otherwise a very good and nicely laid out recipe book!

This book was bought for my son's birthday. He lives in France, but still loves the authentic British cooking. This book fills the gap, and he is enthusiastic about inviting his French friends to enjoy the delicious meals. They are always eagre to attend his lunches and other meals.
