On soundzero, Clemo’s dark and beautiful atmospheres interact with Spevack’s elegant and
dynamic string performances: exquisite arpeggios cascade through Surfing Dreams and Chaos, fire is ignited in Friction, where the whole band spark off each other, and hypnotic violin loops and deep bass grooves engulf the listener in Separated by Shadows.
Composer and film-maker Philip Clemo, whose work was described as ‘mesmeric and completely addictive’ in the The Wire (UK), has released two solo albums, Ambiguous Dialogues and The Rooms, and is currently working on a major new film project shot on location in Iceland.
Composer and violinist Ysanne Spevack, who is described as ‘Incredible… she does for the violin what Jimi Hendrix did for the guitar’ by Steve Chandra (ADF) in the Evening Standard (UK), arranged and played strings this year for Dub Gabriel feat. Michael Stipe (REM), and the Smashing Pumpkins, and scored a live soundtrack for the Silent Movie Theatre, Hollywood.
On soundzero, Clemo and Spevack are joined by an outstanding group of musicians including Cleveland Watkiss (voice), Pete Lockett (percussion) and Mark Sanders (drums), who’s joint lineage extends to work with Björk, David Sylvian, Bill Laswell, Courtney Pine, The London Philharmonic and many others. This great ensemble is continually on the move, developing new and inspiring multi-layered musical dialogues as the soundzero journey develops.
