Product Description

Product Description

This is a collection of Jason’s favourite 80s songs, a tribute to the decade that first introduced us to the easy-going actor/singer who rose to fame via the Australian TV show Neighbours. Soundtrack of the 80s is a feel-good collection of legendary 80s hits including Tear for Fears anthem ‘"Wants To Rule The World", Cutting Crew’s power ballad "(I Just) Died In Your Arms" and Mike & The Mechanic’s world-wide number one, "The Living Years". The album also features three brand new tracks written by Jason: "Innocence", "Talk You Down" and "Good Night Baby" (written for his children). Jason has sold a staggering 13 million albums worldwide, and is only fitting that his latest album marks a return to the period in time that launched it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jason's jems. 17 Oct 2010
By Mr. K. Cross VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Okay, so he isn't the greatest interpreter of songs & hasn't got the best voice in pop, but his abilities are far greater than a previous reviewer would have you believe. He has chosen an excellent brace of 80s songs, & sings them with verve & gusto, his vocals lusty, bright & honest. He obviously really enjoys singing these songs because it comes across in his delivery, & I really enjoy listening to them. Yes, I have most of the tracks by the original artists & love playing them still, but I find this CD a joyous listen. It's honest-to-goodness, straight-forward, enjoyable pop! It makes me happy. What more could you ask of an album?
Okay, I have now had this album for a week or so & after having given it many more plays, I felt I wanted to add to my initial review. I now believe that his voice has actually improved since his 80s hey-day. Listen to Don't Leave Me This Way to surely hear a wider vocal range. He can certainly hit those high notes. Also, there is greater light & shade in his voice, & I love the gentle, warm huskiness he uses for Sign Your Name, & he puts it to excellent use again in the self-penned new song, Goodnight Baby. This is destined to become of of my all-time favourite albums. I can't get enough of it! Give it a go!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jason is fantastic! 25 Oct 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
In the 80's and 90's I bought a few CD's by Jason Donovan. Mostly because I liked his voice very much, but the SAW-productions were not really my cup of tea. Several years ago Jason surprised us with the magnificent 'comeback' CD "Let it be me" and now there is "Soundtrack of the 80s". Jason's voice is even better than at the time he was a huge star. It sounds warmer and his interpretation of the songs is wonderful. For the ones who don't believe me: have a listen to the songs here on Amazon!

I'm looking forward to the next CD and hope that in the meantime this (and the previous) album will get the attention it deserves. Well done, Jason!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 7 May 2013

IMO this should never have escaped the stable. The end tracks penned by Donovan were interesting however; he should try an album full of self penned tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunned, what a lovely surprise 16 April 2013

Format:Audio CD
I am stunned by this album! The majority of artists, you find their voice and singing ability declines considerably as they mature. It is amazing how much Jason's voice and singing have matured. I never knew he could sing like this - this is truly a collection I treasure. 'Talk you down' is absolutely incredible and shows real depth and versatality to Jason's vocals. This is a far - and much better - cry from Jason of the 80s. Thank you for sharing this with us, Jason!!

Jason's Voice, although slightly less produced than his SAW Material shows that he has actually improved over those days and can do more with less effects. Also as we all have gotten older, some of us tend to lose our ability to clear touch the high notes we used to with authority and conviction. you can tell that Jason has been working out and doing vocal exercises over time. Favorites are many but being an American, i had never heard a version of don't leave me this way by the Communards or Mary's Prayer so there were a few more songs on here i got to discover for the first time and liked them. Thats the beauty, Jason is now the only singer i know on these songs and that suits me. his bonus tracks at the end are well written and have memorable hooks, not the throwaway tracks you would assume. Everybody wants to rule the world, sign your name, broken wings and more all are excellent. Just buy this cd and discover for yourself, if you're a fan already you will be thrilled. if you are new to Jason but are curious about the songs, no worries, he delivers in fine fashion!

Great album of 80's cover hits by Jason. Popular hits of the day, you know the words and the songs and can't help singing along too. Great!
