Jerry Maguire was a perfect example of a movie that didn't need an original score. Tom Cruise's sports agent belonged to a world of fast-talking and real-time media. So a car stereo library of songs was the better way to go in portraying a blossoming relationship within that world. The album can look like a pooling of two people's collections (his being the recent go-getting variety: Springsteen's "Secret Garden", Aimee Mann's "Wise Up", Rickie Lee Jones' "The Horses"; hers being: The Who's "Magic Bus" and "Getting' In Time", Paul McCartney's "Singalong Junk" and "Momma Miss America", Elvis Presley's "Pocketful of Rainbows"), but fortunately the collection flows smoothly from one to the next. Nancy Wilson's "We Meet Again" is credited as the movie's theme, but just about any would have served the purpose as well. --Paul Tonks

This is a great accompaniment to the film and a makes for good background or driving music. The Elvis track will bring a smile to your face everytime but I am a little disappointed that one of the most memorable tunes from the movie 'Free' or 'Free Falling' that you can instantly picture Tom Cruise singing in his car - doesn't make an appearance on the soundtrack.

If you enjoyed the film then this CD is definitely for you. It has all the songs which you'd only associate with the film, like Springsteen's Secret Garden.
If Jerry Maguire got you a bit teary, I can guarantee you that the soundtrack will too.
Such a brilliant film, such a brilliant accompanying soundtrack. Get it!

Not only does this so called movie soundtrack not contain Tom Petty's 'Free Falling', it doesn't (and this is unforgivable in my opinion).. it doesn't even contain the rap song from arguably the most memorable scene in this great film. I'm of course talking about the 'Sho Me the Money' scene. The song is 'The Wrong Come Up' by 'L.V.'. I'm sorry but for that alone I have to brand this CD a farce. That is such a cool track, one I never knew before watching the movie but loved the minute I heard it.
It really is a shame that you can't automatically just assume that a movie soundtrack will contain every song you hear in the film. To be fair, there might have been copyright wranglings going on that meant this and other tracks couldn't be on the CD. I'm only willing to consider that possibility because such glaring omissions need an explanation!
