Vocalion's rampage through the KPM vaults continues with 25 more tracks covering the period from 1970-77. 3 of the tracks, all Keith Mansfield compositons, were recorded for the Conroy music library. I've not heard anything heavier than Dave Gold's 'Locomotion'; it's the Led Zep of library. (Uncle) Alan Hawkshaw's 'Traffic' has the players simulating traffic moving to a grind. James Clarke's 'Short Cut' sounds like an impatient driver trying to escape the city. It's not all heavy, quite the contrary in fact: Dick Doerschuk's 'Vegas To LA' is a breezy soulful vibe that conjure up a coastal stretch with a gorgeous vista. Keith Mansfield's 7 minute tour de force 'Before Summer Ends' is simply gorgeous. I'm amazed at how music this good was never released commercially. John Scott's cinematic 'Flight Of the Phoenix' has a heavy eastern vibe running through it and is immensely satisfying. Nick Ingham's 'Speedway' is a killer slab of funk. There's a few clunkers, namely Keith Mansfield's 'Breezin' and James Clarke's 'Tenderly Yours' which are too easy for my palette, but otherwise the comp is faultless.
As usual the mastering is pristine and the booklet stuffed with info.
