Ashton Shepherd
WHERE COUNTRY GROWS

Ashton Shepherd knows “Where Country Grows.”

Her distinctive sound comes from her family farm in the tiny hamlet of Leroy, Alabama. More specifically, it comes from a backyard cabin called The Pickin’ Shed. That’s where this young wife and mother crafts her extraordinarily insightful country songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars remarkable debut album 27 Mar 2008
Format:Audio CD
This was my first experience of this brand new talent and I am looking forward to more of this in the future. This is really a true country artist who if there is any justice will have long and sucsessful career.
The album starts on high with Taking of this Pain and finishes with the brillant Whisky won the Battle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ooh Does This Newcomer Sound So Good!!! 17 Jun 2008
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ashton is pure country! And it's way over due to have a singer like this in country music.
She wrote all but one track and she's a natural. With a fantastic voice and a Alabama twang to go with it.
She kicks things off with the cracking Takin' Off This Pain-great song.Other excellent uptempos are the title track Sounds So Good(love the fiddle arrangement)Not Right Now(about not settling down any time soon)The Pickin' Shed and the fabulous The Bigger The Heart.Just love that song-this will have your toe tapping along in no time.
She also has some fantastic hurtin' country ballads like Old Memory,Regular Joe and the great Whiskey Won The Battle.
If you love your country then you have to add this gem to your collection! An excellent debut from an artist that is gonna go a long way in country music...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great New talent 15 April 2008
Format:Audio CD
This is a great country Cd by a new American singer. This is not the usual dull Formula like Carrie underwood ,this is the real thing . The highlight is Taking Back The Pain followed by I Ain't Dead Yet.
PS Lets hope Mindy Mccready makes a comeback with her great voice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the voice 20 April 2012
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having bought this album after 'Where Country Grows', I can't decide whether to score it 4* or 5*. It is slower than the later album, but still really good. I love the rich voice, and really catchy tunes. If you like any of The Corrs, Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, Mary-Chapin Carpenter you are likely to enjoy Ashton Shepherd's music. I can highly recommend both albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Raw Talent Unleashed 10 Mar 2010
Format:Audio CD
I will always remember the day I first heard Ashton Shepherd's voice. I was shuffling around our kitchen with a radio in the background turned on and tuned to a US National Public Radio station. I was ignoring whatever was playing on the radio until this penetrating female voice came ringing out, singing real country music with a wonderful Alabama accent and with every word perfectly articulated. This voice I had never heard before instantly reminded me of Edith Piaf.

I soon learned I was listening to Ashton Shepherd. It struck me that in my 79 years of exposure to country music, this was the best new female country music talent I had ever heard. I quickly became concerned about her ability to handle the pressures millions of adoring fans would place on her in the future. I just hope she can have a normal life filled with wisdom about the needs to avoid taking show business too seriously.

I bought Ashton Shepherd's CD titled "Sounds so Good" and listened to every track several times. Ashton Shepherd wrote seven of the CD's eleven tracks as the sole songwriter. These sole-writer efforts include tracks one through five plus seven and eight. They provide classic examples of Ashton Shepherd singing and songwriting. If I had to describe Ashton Shepherd's efforts in one word I would choose "originality." It is easy to find hundreds of excellent country music songs that lack originality. They are much like other country music songs. Ashton Shepherd has somehow broken out of this mold and gives us some real treats we have never heard before. I consider all seven of her sole-writer efforts to deserve five stars.

Four of the tracks on the "Sounds so Good" CD involved contributions by Alan Cunningham.
