Product Description

Two albums from English instrumental group Sounds Incorporated, dating from 1964 and 1966. The group was famous for their energetic stage act, and backed or supported nearly everyone from the Beatles downwards, including Gene Vincent and Cilla Black! Just how did a six-man instrumental group with just two small UK Top Fifty hits justify three LP's during their career? Quality. Six musicians, many multi-instrumentalists, playing impeccable renditions of wide-ranging material, from rocked-up classics to surprisingly mature original compositions.

Their break came in 1961 when chosen to back visiting rocker Gene Vincent both live and in the studio when his own group were disavowed into the UK in 1961 which led to their first single, "Emily" - the name of the converted ambulance the group travelled in to gigs! After little chart impression their move to Decca coincided with honing their mix of raucaus barnstormers and more exotic tunes that set them apart from the majority of other UK instrumental bands. Backing a string of top US music pop and rock stars cemented their reputation and what is possibly their "golden period" began when Brian Epstein signed Sounds to his management company. With Epstein as guiding light they became Cilla Blacks' live backing group and also toured the world, opening for the Beatles including at the famous Shea Stadium!

All the tracks on this set emanate rom their two UK LP's while with Columbia. It's just unfortunate their full sound and happy-go-lucky energetic stage presence didn't always make the full transistion to cold vinyl, but they tried real hard. However, much material recorded for television survives and can be found on the Web - check their entries on the ubiquitous You Tube to get a feeling for that and some of their live stage act - amazing. The music on this CD was recorded when recording methods of the time were distinctly of their era, but some of the groups exprtise and enthusiasm does break through.

Thrilled to see reviews of this group as I knew them back in the 60s....what a talented group they were. I and some friends met them during a gig in Torquay, we were introduced by a local photographer and had our photos taken with them in abut 1963-4. We then kept in touch with them wherever they were in the UK, exchanging letters for quite a long time. Their big break came when Brian Epstein signed them and they would have gone on to do even greater things - except that Brian Epstein died a few months later.

Great sounds from a superb group - footage of them at the NME Poll Concerts often crops up, playing their own set or backing Cilla Black and any other visiting artists.

Happy days.

I attended several concerts featuring Sounds Incorporated that included one at Bath where they supported Cilla Black. They had a few vocals as their strength was clearly in their instrumental work. This double CD brought back many memories and would appeal to those (like me) who enjoyed this unique style of music from the 60s. A great listen.

Had the earlier See For Miles Cd, but missed "William Tell", "Sounds Like Movin'" and the others.
Nice clear sound as these tracks are "still in copyright" so no cheap nasty production.
Well worth the asking price and now mostly on the personal stereo (in flac format) that is always hanging around my neck.

Fantastic double album from one of the best intrumental groups of the '60's, playing the majority of their chart hits plus other favourites.
