There s much intriguing information and many fine exercises that will be useful to anyone interested in this important and transformational subject. --Jonathan Goldman, author of several books including The 7 Secrets of Sound Healing Jonathan Goldman, short version

Product Description

Sound has been used for thousands of years to help improve health and wellbeing. In "Sounding the Mind of God", Lyz Cooper brings ancient knowledge together with easy to digest 'new' science to demonstrate how sound can be used in an easy way to make positive changes to your life. This book contains a range of simple, fun exercises which include the use of the voice, Himalayan singing bowls, chimes, drums and more. If you are in need of a quick pick-me-up, try the 'sonic caffeine' exercises - or if you need a stress buster, how about some 'sonic hot chocolate'?

Lyz Cooper used to have a career in advertising, which she gave up when she ended-up with ME. One day suffering from a blinding headache, she discovered while in the bath that making various sounds removed her headache, thereby putting her onto what would become her life-path of `Sound Therapy'.
Fast Forward to today and Lyz runs The British Academy of Sound Therapy where she offers professional training courses. This book `Sounding the Mind of God' is a summary of those years of personal experience, study, training and enlightenment.
It makes for a very interesting read and I experimented in the first few hours of reading with her exercise: `Sonic Caffeine' to see if it would brighten-up what was a rather dull start to my day....needless to day the technique worked rather nicely.
The book is divided into 2 sections. The first describes all the theory and thinking behind the techniques and the second has exercises on `How To Do This At Home'.
If you want to explore Sound Therapy this book makes a perfect introduction with plenty of details and clear instruction.

I too enjoyed this book very much indeed - why? because it encompasses so much information on the modality of sound and it's potential as a healing force, when utilized with intent in this way! The book is in two parts. part 1 prepares you for the sound work in part 2. After an introduction on how Lyz Cooper has come on an encouraging journey from sickness (ME) amongst other things, to present day health via her study and application of sound waves and their effect on the human form/spirit.The success of which, has led her to teach these methods across the world to date.

We are told that although these practices with sound are very ancient, they are explainable with up to date quantum physics theories. The aspect of how sound healing works through resonance makes sense of it's power as a healing agent and how the universe can be explained through musical terms also. How sound affects Brain waves and therefore consciousness is explored, together with sounds ancient origins and philosophies from different cultural backgrounds.

Commencing with exercises that not only range from identifying where the energy imbalances are, but how to monitor our energy levels and at what level of being (physical, emotional, mental or spiritual)the underlying problem (core issue)may be holding the present pattern in place, so we can find a more permanent solution to our imbalances. We are educated on our subtle anatomy of energy centres and their link with the musical scale and how we can address imbalances here too.

Part 2 Explores the application of sound healing with holistic voice therapy and the importance of breath, Himalayan/crystal singing bowls, drum therapy and the power of drum rhythm's, entrainment and self help via all of these methods. Not to mention the popular 'sonic vitamins' and what Lyz refers to as 'sonic hot chocolate'. I can honestly say now having tried most of these exercises now, they are definitely powerful! Of particular interest also, is sounds potential in helping children with learning difficulties. This book is a valuable asset to anyone, whether as an introduction to the world of sound/self development and holistic health or the seeker of knowledge as a reference book. Because it collates together a lot of information in one book, whilst being understandable and interesting at the same time.

Sounds Good to Me! 10 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I took a three year course in Energy Healing some years ago and since graduating have found that the sound healing has followed me around tapping on my shoulder ever since.
This book is a well written easy and joyful to read, - I read it through in a couple evenings, am now re-reading and working through at a slower pace.
Lyz Cooper is passionate about her subject and deeply and expansively aware, yet grounded, making the subject very accessible and easy to follow.
There is plenty here for those who wish to use sound for self healing also for therapists wishing to expand their healing "tool kit"
This book is a 'must read' anyone who wants to further their knowledge on sound healing, or energy/vibrational healing.
Since reading this and attending workshops by sound healers I have decided to enrol on a therapists sound healing course for my continuing professional development this year.
