3.0 out of 5 stars pip click snap crakle and pop, 2 Oct 2008

Watch out for this one if you are running vista/Media center/Nvidia graphics cards

It installs fine and works great but it makes its very own Rice crispies sound track. I have tried using it without the graphics card and it still pours on the milk!! I have now installed it on my xp machine and it works fine and is great value for money. I wanted the optical in/out which this card has for multi media sharing use.

2.0 out of 5 stars lovely sound shame about the gaming, 6 Dec 2008

I bought this card to upgrade from my old Sound blaster live 24 bit. The improvement when playing music files is incredible. When it comes to gaming it is a different story. This card actualy gives lower frame rates than my old card, despite being a PCI-E card. In short if you are a gamer forget it, an old sound blaster card will give you better performance.Given that this is a new-ish PCI-Express card it should not cause lower frame rates in games than the cards it replaced. If you just use your PC for general use and listening to music you can find cheaper cards that will play back music just as well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the headaches, 2 Dec 2008
By C. Rodriguez - See all my reviews

Decided to get a sound card with a digital output after years of crackling from the motherboard soundcard, decided on this 7.1 surround sound, spdif output & windows xp compatible - soundblaster has been round for years thought perfect.
Arrived a couple of days later installed it within a couple of minutes booted up, windows detected it, but then the headache started. Even though on the side of the box it clearly states xp sp2 (or greater) - i have sp3 installed but the cd doesn't actually provide xp drivers - Great! visited the website & tried the latest drivers, turned out to be a waste of time. After a few hours searching found out this is a common problem with soundblaster cards, but in this case there is a fix. Download the xtreme drivers for the notebook & force the drivers to install, gave this ago but found that with sp3 it wouldn't let me do this, in the end called it a day, only way to get it to worked seems to be to upgrade to vista which i won't be doing any time soon. I wouldn't recommend buying a soundblaster, especially if you want to use it on an xp system there plenty of alternatives
