I saw these girls at Gosport Festival and was bowled over by their charm and dynamism in concert so I was looking forward to the release of this album. And what a debut this is! 12 superb original songs featuring Danni & Beth's trademark harmonies surrounded by some lovely playing and a very "live" production. They cover a lot of ground musically. "Sound of Requiem", the title track is an indie anthem waiting to happen with a great hook and chorus. "Blank Literature" and "Darling" are both great songs with a little of The Cranberries in the guitarwork and some terrific harmony singing. There's a touch of Africana in the lilting rhythms of "Homo Sapiens" and a cool little guitar riff in "Half a Bowl of Cereal" which sounds like an acoustic Johnny Marr. The closing track "Moon Moves" is the best new lullaby since Lennon closed the White Album with "Goodnight" If you like Joan Osborne, Ani DiFranco, Beth Orton or Liz Phair you'll love this. But you'll also love it if you like Beautiful South, The Cranberries, Elastica or 4 Non Blondes. Great songs, terrific singing and a good feel to it, It's great for chillin' and for singing along to. Try to see them live though - to play Glastonbury when one of the singers is still 13 is amazing but once you've heard this, it seems perfectly natural.
