Description

Hailing from Texas, Leeland is a five-piece Christian rock band fronted by Leeland Moring, who was only 17 when this album was recorded. The band has a very distinct early-2000s alt-rock sound, reminiscent of bands like Coldplay and Travis. Their lyrics are unmistakably religious, proclaiming an infectious joy in their praise of God. While most of the albumconsists of guitar-driven rock, there are a number of down-tempo keyboard songs as well. Fans of Christian rock will enjoy this heartfelt and easily listenable album.

Truely you need to be able to understand the Christian faith to be reached by their lyrics. Wonderful words and infact recommended by Michael W Smith himself on his website.
Have been touched and moved by this CD.
So good, going to give a copy to our funky vicar!

LEELAND ARE A NEW YOUNG CHRISTIAN ROCK OUTFIT WITH A CRISP UNIQUE SOUND WITH A STYLE LIKE COLDPLAY BUT YOUGER AND FRESHER BUT WITH ALOT OF MATURITY BUY THIS ALBUM AND YOU WONT BE DISAPOINTED,IT WILL SUIT ALL CHRISTIAN AND NON CHRISTIAN YOUNG AND THE SLIGHTLY OLDER

Leeland are a young band (lead singer Leeland Mooring was just 17 when this was recorded) and, on the evidence of this album, they are a bright hope for music in the future. Comparisons with Coldplay are perhaps not quite on target but the sort of Brit-rock that Leeland produce on this album will appeal to many. There are some very catchy tunes which stick in your mind ("Sound of Melodies" and "Tears Of The Saints" in particular) and the quality of musicianship and singing is very good.

My only quibble with this album are the lyrics. Initially people told me "such excellent lyrics, you'll be amazed" but on repeated listening the lyrics began to grate. It's in writing the words to the songs that Leeland Mooring's young age is apparent - none of his themes are very deep, it all seems pretty superficial stuff. An example from the song "Tears of the Saints": "There are tears from the saints for the lost and unsaved, We're crying for them come back home. And all your children will stretch out their hands and pick up the crippled man; Father, we will lead them home". Most of the other songs have lyrics like that - looking at the world in a very black-and-white fashion and for me this meant that after a while the album lost some of its impact.

Still, Leeland are an important band to watch and if they produce other albums of this quality (preferably with better songwriting) then I will happily include them alongside my Coldplay album collection!

An excellent album which goes to show that Christian music can be just as good as secular. If you are into American piano rock and want to hear how the Christians do it, buy this.
