Oh. My God. Incredible music and pictures. Is this a time machine to David Bailey's "The Sixties"? No. It's something new and very fresh. You've never heard anything like this, and what a joy to see images of the new bands to boot. I can't keep the book down, and have been listening to the CD at home, in my car, etc.

I didn't realize when buying this that it's actually a collection of backstage (and onstage) photos from the Beijing music scene -- not a nonfiction book about the scene. There is a good introduction and an invaluable appendix describing all the bands, but the photos themselves didn't do so much for me. (They are good, but without a prior attachment to the bands they're just good.) However, the compilation CD that came with it was a GREAT introduction to who these people are. The final result is a good window into the Beijing scene circa 2008, a scene busting open with energy and ideas.
