Product Description

For fans of Robert E. Howard, David Gemmell, and Raymond E. Feist, here is the sequel to the critically praised "Demonsouled."

Mazael, now Lord of Castle Cravenlock, has subdued the demonic power within his soul, though at terrible cost to himself. Yet peace remains elusive. Mazael's former overlord plans a war of pride. A corrupt order of militant knights scheme for brutal and bloody conquest. The serpent people and their followers plot a terrible vengeance upon Mazael and his sister.

And a foe more terrible than any he has yet faced awaits.

For Mazael was not the only child of the Old Demon...

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Standing over six feet tall, Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.

He has written the "Demonsouled" trilogy of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write the "Ghosts" sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the "$0.99 Beginner's Guide" series of computer books, and numerous other works.

Buckets of blood. 13 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Mazael has learned to control his tainted bloodline handed down to him by his half god father.

Now in a period of respite he wants to bind Lord Richard and Malavan to peace by brokering a marriage between his best friend and his sister. The resulting union will leave both Richard and Malavan allied to him. Malavan demands aid against the knights Dominar as the price of the alliance. The ruthless knights Dominar have subjugated the Old Kingdoms and seek to recover a crucial port in the lands of lord Malavan.

The main storyline covers the betrothal of Rachel and Gerald and the political maneuverings leading to their marriage. The antagonist in this case are the knights Dominar and a new hidden Demonsouled manipulating events. A new main character is Lucien, son of Lord Richard who is a powerful wizard who provides a magical counterpoint to Mazael.

The structure and style is very similar to the first book with the same multiple levels of plot. The impact isnt probably as great if you read them back to back as you will recognise the clues. however this does not detract from what is undoubtedly a great book. If you like your fantasy dark and gory - read this. If not - dont.

excellent follow on 16 Oct 2011

Book 2 in the Demonsouled series,is just as good a Heroic fantasy read as the first book in the series.Well written, good characters and decent plot. But there are still some typo/spelling errors in the book(they don't spoil it too much but are a bit of an annoyance). If the author got rid of the typo's/spelling errors I would happily give 5 stars.

Fun fantasy read 11 Mar 2012

A nice sequel with interesting characters. I enjoy Moeller's writing, both in the Demonsouled series and his Ghost series. If you enjoy fantasy, then I recommend the Demonsouled series.

Couldn't put it down!!! 13 Feb 2012

I got the 1st book "Demonsouled" because it was free and it had high ratings. I read it in 2 days and when I found out there was a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th book, I bought them all right after the 1st. I couldn't put it down. The story and the characters pull you in and you dont want to put it down until the end. I'll admit, the 1st book of the series was better but this one is worth the buy. Now to start on the 3rd book. This is not a trilogy. I thought it was but it keeps going.

Sequel continues to entertain 31 Aug 2011

If you're reading this review wondering whether the series is worth starting, the answer is yes. Read further at your own peril; spoilers (for the first novel) follow.

"Soul of Tyrants" starts off with Mazael as Lord of Cravenlock, the Old Demon banished from his lands. Still, Mazael's position is precarious; his new liege and former lord are at odds, with Cravenlock stuck in the middle. The Old Demon is off stage, plotting death and the rise of the Destroyer. To maintain peace, Mazael seeks to wed his sister Rachel to Gerald, youngest son of Mazael's former lord, Malden. In return, Mazael agrees to help in the fight against the Dominiars, a monastic order reminiscent of the Templars which is at odds with Malden. The involvement of serpent people and Mazael's half-demon half-siblings further complicates the situation, and lays the stage for a new confrontation with the Old Demon's evils.

The story continues to be highly entertaining. Mazael has enough BAMF qualities to spare, and the mysteries are a bit better done in this novel than the prequel. That balances out against the lack of Mazael's internal strife that characterized "Demonsouled" and the continued minor issues in proofreading, less acceptable in a for-money novel, to maintain a four star rating. Overall, an entertaining read filled with well executed traditional sword and sorcery elements.
