Product Description

MAZAEL CRAVENLOCK stands victorious over all his foes, and wishes nothing more than to live quietly in peace, overseeing his lands. Yet a relic of the ancient world, a thing of black sorcery, has been unearthed, a weapon that threatens to turn the Grim Marches to a realm of corpses.

And Mazael’s sins might return to devour him…

ROMARIA GREENSHIELD has mastered herself at last, the human and Elderborn halves of her soul in harmony. Free from her past, she travels north to start a new life in the Grim Marches.

But now she faces a hunter that even she might not have the skill to overcome…

LUCAN MANDRAGON is trapped in the netherworld between life and death, imprisoned by his own folly. Haunted by visions of his mistakes, tormented by memories of his past, Lucan finds himself the prey of a spirit both mighty and corrupt.

And the price to escape might consume all he has left…

CORVAD burns with the blood and power of the Demonsouled. He will take up the sword of the Destroyer, and throw down the realms of men.

And once he claims the ancient relic for himself, all the world shall be his…

MOLLY has lost everything she holds dear, and has no reason left to live.

There is only one cure for her loss, one vengeance she can take for her pain.

The death of Mazael Cravenlock.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Standing over six feet tall, Jonathan Moeller has the piercing blue eyes of a Conan of Cimmeria, the bronze-colored hair a Visigothic warrior-king, and the stern visage of a captain of men, none of which are useful in his career as a computer repairman, alas.

He has written the "Demonsouled" trilogy of sword-and-sorcery novels, and continues to write the "Ghosts" sequence about assassin and spy Caina Amalas, the "$0.99 Beginner's Guide" series of computer books, and numerous other works.

The life of Mazel is never one of rest. No sooner is one foe dispatched than another even more henious rises up to take its place. The latest book is no exception.

Following on directly from Soul of Serpents Mazael is ambushed on his way back to the Grim marches after defeating Ultorin. Lucien - tragically crippled from the events in the last book is kidnapped by two new Demonsouled. The new demonsouled of course command the now eponymous horde of Malrags and Zuvembies.

The usual elements are present - the connection of the current threat with earlier ones through the Demonsouled antagonists and the manipulation of the Old Demon. The driving storyline aspects are Mazaels relationship with the new Demonsouled - who are more direclty related, and the continuing story of Lucien - one of the best developed characters in the books - including even Mazael.

At some point in the last book - Lucien became more interesting as a character than Mazael. Mazael is essentially a one dimensional hero now - he is well defined and his responses are predictable and well known. Lucien however is the conflicted hero and a total wild card. As such he is by far the most interesting character in the books now. In this book he is the single most interesting element as the rest has become totally predictable.

The major twist in this book is given away very early on and the rest of the book is driven by Luciens fate. Its a very nice readable book - but the series has become terribly predictable and lacking in deep characterisation. It lacks the impact of the original novel but is a comfortable unchallenging read. Not the andrenaline rush of the past - more of a cozy familiar read.

This series has outworn its useful life and should have been put to bed as a trilogy. It can only be redeemed by a final conclusive battle with old demon which all signs point the way to with a final book. Id suggest not to read this unless you are a huge Moeller fan - or if a final book wraps the series with a conclusive and literary significant conclusion.

Great Book! 12 Mar 2012

My opinion of this book is as follows: The story is great, the story is fantastic, and the action is up close and personal. The one and only reason it deserves four stars instead of five is that there are small grammatical errors throughout the book.

Does Mazael ever get a break???? I thought the 3rd book was great. The details and descriptions of the characters came to life. The 4th has some surprise characters and I was soooo glad it wasn't the end of "Lucan Mandragon". Sad to say, I read all 4 books in 2 weeks and now I must wait for the 5th book thats suppose to come out sometime this year. I know my family is glad that I'm done with the series (for now) and its time for some family bonding. I just couldn't put it down. I was almost banned from my kindle...lol!!

Really good series 24 Feb 2012

This series is very good but I wish the author had tied up all the loose ends and finished the series. Saying this I probably will not read the next installment because I am burned out on the constant fighting and character involvement. I loved the main characters and where he took them but it was time to end the series. I would recommend these books and you can decide for yourself whether you want to follow up or not. It is fairly easy to see where the author is going with this series. But kudos for a great series!!!
