This is a book I bought to help my studies, and it was excellent, some of the older astrolgy books are rather puzzling to understand, this one is straigthforward, and enjoyable to read, not like a text book at all.

I agree with the previous reviewer. I still don't understand the author's point of view as it is not a very easy or practical form of astrology for daily use. There is another excellent channelled book however, which was reccommended to me by the Theosophical Society, on esoteric astrology. It is called The Astrology of Reincarnation by Elizabeth Rose Howard and Ascended Master Hilarion The Astrology of Reincarnation: The Astrology Your Soul used to Trace Your Currnet Life Path: Introduction to The Astrological Aspects (The New Hilarion Series)
I found this new book excellent as it provides a real and practical toolbox for esoteric astrologers. New and substaintial channelled material is refreshing to find these days

Years ago, I tried to read "Esoteric astrology" by Alice Bailey. I didn't get it. I bought Alan Oken's book hoping to understand the esoteric system of Bailey better. I still don't.

Oken, a follower of Bailey and her Lucifer Trust, is just as incomprehensible as his guru. A Theosophist-watcher I'm causally acquainted with, tells me that's because Bailey's message *is* incomprehensible. Nobody really understands what on earth the old woman was talking about anyway. However, it looks sophisticated in print.

The only thing I made out was that my horoscope might be interesting from an esoteric perspective, since I have the esoteric ruler of my ascendant sign at the actual ascendant. (Get it?)

But what on earth does it all mean? Who knows. Perhaps I'm Phylos the Thibetan, returned from the dead to give you all a good trashing. Or perhaps Richard Dawkins is right, and we are all descended from Blavatsky's baboon? Or perhaps is a conspiracy to get the nations to accept an Anti-Christ One World Government?

Or perhaps I'm just being bored, at 00.18 local time in Sweden, after watching the incredibly bad first episode of "The Last Templar"? Any relation to Lucius, by the way?

Let those who can understand, LOL.

A must for those on the Path... 6 Nov. 2000
By Bete Noire - Published on
Format: Paperback
This is a masterpiece introductory course in esoteric astrology, inspired by Alan Oken's studies and intellectual excursions into the works of Alice Bailey and the Theosophical Society and propelled by his tremendous inspiration and excellent writing abilities.Esoteric astrology is the emerging paradigm, operating with expanded symbols of consciousness and its purpose is to be a reliable road-map for one's spiritual evolution. While in classical Western astrology the sun sign, moon sign, and rising sign are the three most important parameters in defining the personality of a subject-in that order, esoteric astrology reverses the order, with the rising sign as the revealer of the soul's purpose, the sun sign as the sign of probabilities, and the moon sign as the karmic accumulations in need to be discarded.Using concepts such as the fixed or the cardinal cross, and a reworking of the meanings of the planets in the houses, more in accord with our need to evolve towards the dictates of our own souls, this is a very generous, empowering, and soul-affirming book,so that when the soul is fully realized,it can depart and then be replaced by the Spirit...

A "must" for students of astrology and metaphysics. 4 Jan. 2001
By Midwest Book Review - Published on
Format: Paperback
In Soul-Centered Astrology, students of metaphysics will learn ten postulates of the Ancient Wisdom Teachings; the nature and influence of the Seven Rays; the path of incarnation and the Three Crosses; the esoteric significance of the planets in the signs; and be treated to an in-depth analysis of the chakras as well as a guide to soul-centered natal chart delineation. Soul-Centered Astrology is a welcome, definitive, and highly recommended contribution to personal and professional astrology reference book collections.

I read this book when it first came out....I was a new astrologer at that stage. Since then I have taught many classes and I recommend this book to all of my students who are interested in learning the spiritual side of astrology. Personally, this is my third copy of this book!! I have every book Alan Oken has written and had the pleasure of attending a workshop of his many years ago. His material withstands the test of time.

For Experienced Astrologers 8 Jan. 2013

This a very deeply spiritual addition to the world of Astrology. This is a book for someone who is already well-versed and comfortable with the reading of astrological charts. Not a book for the beginner.
Mind opening 3 Mar. 2015

I've always used astrology, but never saw it from this angle. Even if a person does not believe everything Oken hypothesizes, his ideas of the energies present are mind opening. I gave this book 4 stars because of the copious amounts of long winded and long worded sentences that could have been streamlined to make a clearer point.
