Amazon's #1 Bestselling Ghost Story, Recommended on USA Today

"Blackwell has woven a Celtic myth, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and a serial killer's rampage into a great novel... When everything came together and all the pieces finally fell into place I was completely shocked. The ending was fantastic."
--The Jeep Diva [Book Blog]

"With the combination of an ancient Celtic myth and the legend of the Headless Horseman, Blackwell's story is a leave-the-light-on kind of page turner... If you like suspenseful thrillers, check out A Soul to Steal."
--Indie Reader [Featured on USA Today]

A serial killer on the loose, two reporters in his sights, and a legendary ghost haunting the town...

Something is stalking the citizens of Loudoun County, Va.

Is it the return of the notorious serial killer known as Lord Halloween? Or is it something worse--a figure that can cloak itself as your worst nightmare?

Kate and Quinn, two community journalists, rush to uncover the truth before a promised bloodbath on Halloween night.

A Soul to Steal has been featured on USA Today and praised by book bloggers and readers alike for its thrilling combination of mystery, suspense and the supernatural. 4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Halloween tale 15 Oct 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Every October I try and cram in as many Halloween themed books as possible. From well loved and well read standards such as Ray Bradbury's The Halloween Tree, Norm Partridge's Dark Harvest, and Lisa Cantrell's The Manse. I'm one of those folks who rarely rereads a book a second time, so for a book to make it onto my reread pile means it has to be pretty special, so how does Rob Blackwell's A Soul To Steal measure up?

"You Are What You Fear

Something is stalking the citizens of Loudoun County, Va. Is it the return of the notorious serial killer known as Lord Halloween? Or is it something worse--a figure that can cloak itself as your worst nightmare?Kate and Quinn, two community journalists, rush to uncover the truth before a promised bloodbath on Halloween night."

This is the début novel from Journalist Rob Blackwell, and to be honest it is a damn fine book. You can tell that he has used his journalistic skills well, the colonial settings in the book are rich and vivid, and they transport you right into the period they are describing. This is one of those novels that manages to blend many different genres, into a satisfying read. this is predominately a supernatural thriller, but Blackwell also manages to have a romantic narrative in the story as well, which doesn't feel forced or false.

The reader is kept guessing as the plot hurls along, and more importantly the reder is kept entertained. Those familiar with classic ghost stories will me reminded of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, however Blackwell uses this as a basis for his own story and it is not just a rehash of the tale.

All in all this was a great read, is it good enough to be reread next year, lets just say probably. And coming from me that is high praise indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait For The Sequel 30 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
As a freebie I didn't have high hopes for A Soul to Steal. Boy was I wrong. This is in my list of top five books read so far this year, and that includes some David Mitchell, Sergei Lukyanenko, and Emma Donoghue.

Right from the opening the story is gripping, and it just gets better and better. The characters are strong and well developed, you care about them. So much so, I can't wait for the sequel, I'm counting down the weeks. I guessed the ending before getting there, but only just, and only after a pretty big clue was left dangling.

Reading A Soul To Steal is a bit like watching From Dusk Til Dawn - it starts out as one kind story and ends up as something quite different. It excels both as a traditional mystery and a supernatural thriller. Not normally my kind of thing, but it's done with such panache that it simply works. Highly recommended.
