Biography

Bob Marley was a hero figure, in the classic mythological sense. His departure from this planet came at a point when his vision of One World, One Love -- inspired by his belief in Rastafari -- was beginning to be heard and felt. The last Bob Marley and the Wailers tour in 1980 attracted the largest audiences at that time for any musical act in Europe.

Pre Cursor Of Greatness Soon To Be Realized 17 July 2012

SOUL REVOLUTION is the follow up to The Wailers first release outside of Jamaica, SOUL REBEL, and showed the tremendous growth of the band. Many of the songs on this wonderful album would become some of their most beloved hits on other albums, in particular those of Marley. "Don't Rock My Boat"; "Put It On"; "Fussing and Fighting"; "Duppy Conqueror"; "Kaya"; "Sun Is Shining"; "African Herbsman" and "Riding High" all where re-recorded at Island Studio's which afforded them more up to date equipment and the more mainstream production of Chris Blackwell. I love this album as it's Reggae in it's profound simplicity and is wonderfully produced by the legendary Lee Perry.

The Wailers were truly gaining momentum at this time as the genre was beginning to get notice outside of the island nations. Jimmy Cliff was also making significant noise at this time and together they would both soon help to introduce Reggae as a mainstream force that would garner the admiration of millions of fans around the world. This album was only released in Jamaica as it seems that Lee Perry and The Wailers were fine tuning their skills for what was about to come. This in no way diminishes the impact of the album to me, the songs are still very powerful and lyrical masterpieces and the vocals are exceptionally strong.

The harmonies are wonderfully crafted and Bunny Wailers incredible and angelic voice truly shines, I really love these early albums as, before long, the bands 3 main members would go their separate ways never to record again as a unit. You truly hear the joy of each song on this album and it truly is a unique way to hear The Wailers before the glossing of more modern techniques are introduced. I love both and think that if you take the time to listen to this and their earlier material, you'll grow to appreciate were they came from and how truly fast they grew into one of the most influential and powerful bands ever.

They were soon to influence people from the 4 corners of the world as you can find their fans on every continent under the sun. They were the band of the people and right hear was the genesis of it all. This is a wonderful album and one that I've enjoyed so much over the years. The Wailers was something that the music world had not ever seen before and by the time it was all said and done, it was a force the likes of which will never be seen again.
