I came across these guys on a sampler a few years back, and I must say that the love they have for The Meters (my favourite funk band of all time) really stands out on this album. They are not just copying the nevilles and zig et al, but using many of their best hooks and licks as an inspiration to make the songs on here feel very fresh and very much their own creations. Only a funk nerd (hello!) would pick apart each track and break down the patterns and placements of their guitar/bass/drum licks but I'm gonna resist that urge and instead urge you to grab most if not all of this fine album.
If you like The Meters or generally 60's/70's funk and soul you will get a lot out of this tight trio of funkateers, the guest vocalists break things up nicely too.
