What can I say? A brilliant package! The short film, Function at the Junction, is superb. No wonder it won awards. Not only is it well shot, it has wonderful charaters and is a great self contained narrative piece. It's a shame it was only 10/15 mins as I would've loved to have seen more. The documentary is a fantastically orchestrated journey into the true roots of the Northern Soul scene. The dance sequences give a vibrant back drop to the interviews taken from various characters (some you will recognise and think wow), passionate about Northern Soul. This is all held together by the music and the Soul Function package boasts a CD with no less than 20 must have NS tracks! I'm going leave it there as I'm about to start the whole DVD/CD again!

Soul Scenes Seen as a Northern Soul documentary,

I had heard about this short film since it was screened on BBC 2 a few months back. Now having bought it , Paul Kaye as the DJ is so funny , John McArdle and John Henshaw are also very good as they portray what I can only imagine the scene might have been like. The short film is great value but the bonus and real money is in the excellent doco. The orginal DJs and dancers are captured recalling the nights with true fondness. Life changing in fact. Sir Paul Smith talks quite a bit about the clothes, fashions and music as does Ashely Beedle, Russ Winstanley ( the Wigan Casino promoter), Keb Darge and many many others. Many interviews are cut with original footage from the Wigan Casino with displays of the most incredible spins and foot work I have ever seen.So that was the DVD and then you get a seperate CD for the stereo and car. If you want to know anything about this niche or indeed re-live the past, then I am sure you will find no other package with this much detail and entertianment.

Redditch Northern Soul Nut,

I bought this at Christmas and watched it over and over again. Actually spotted some of our friends on the original footage which was brilliant. I am one of many who travelled every week from Redditch in Worcs, to go to Wigan for the allnighters and to see the dance floor again and the respect everyone had for each other took me right back - I was sixteen again!! And the short story was great too - loved the clothes and the dance moves. would recommend this to anyone - those that have been to Wigan will relive a precious part of their lives and those who didn't get to go will be able to see why we all love this music so much and will continue to do so forever!
