I have included three fictional short stories in this book:
The Smith Family Reunion
In the Smith Family Reunion we see Athena Aerosmith (a recurring character in these short stories) shortly after her divorce from Dr. Arrowsmith. Her children are grown and she is a successful business woman. It happens that the love of her life has found her and he is a man who is as tough and resilient as she is. Sparks fly as she discovers something unexpected about the Smith family. (6,600 words)
The Phoenician Ambassador
It is about 900 BCE and the Phoenicians are very interested in the threat posed by the Greeks; but at the same time their own rulers are in conflict. Ruthless murders, banishment, exile fall upon the land and a whole new frontier awaits the survivors. (10, 800 words)
Sótano del Oro
I tell this fictional story in first person. The first part of the story is based strongly on real people and real events from the 1970s. The story then transitions into a fully fictional account of exploration and mishap in the Sierra Gorda mountains of central San Luís Potosí. Will I make it out alive? (15, 700 words)
These are fictional stories, which I view as “hard science fiction/historical fiction.” I try to stick as close to the facts as they were or would be and speculate about the outcome of certain events. No physical laws are violated and no monsters pop out of the walls.
