Amazon.co.uk Review

Featuring an outstanding cast of rapidly rising talent, Sorted is a hallucinogenic cocktail of thriller and insider's eye view of the London club scene. Debut director Alexander Jovy has promoted raves and is a qualified lawyer, so it's unsurprising his club scenes, filmed on real nights at the Ministry of Sound and other clubs, are completely authentic. The story has young lawyer Carl, Matthew Rhys, coming from Yorkshire to investigate the death of his high-flying (in every sense) brother. Jovy portrays the gulf between Carl's world in his relationship with classy, conventional Sunny (Sienna--Take a Girl Like You--Guillory), and the hedonistic fantasyland of the club scene represented by fallen Pre-Raphaelite angel Tiffany (Fay--Eyes Wide Shut--Masterson). Straddling the two worlds is a remarkable Jason Donovan as Martin, customs officer by day, glam transvestite by night. Unfortunately atmospheric drama soon gives way to lightweight thriller conventions while Tim Curry's camp villain (surely a parody of DeNiro's Louis Cypher from Angel Heart), creates expectations of a much darker conclusion. Sorted is ultimately old-fashioned, romantic and soft-centred where it needs far more edge, but is nevertheless so luxuriantly stylish it may mark Jovy as his generation's answer to Ridley Scott. A word of warning: several scenes feature very powerful stroboscopic lighting effects. --Gary S. Dalkin

From the Back Cover

When Carl Dawson's successful brother dies in mysterious circumstances he travels to London to collect his belongings.
Once there he discovers that the circumstances surrounding Justin's life and death are not as straightforward as they outwardly seem.
Meeting up with Justin's beautiful girlfriend Sunny they begin to dig deeper into Justin's affairs discovering another side to his life which neither was aware of. As they become drawn into a dangerous underground web of blackmail and deceit, Carl is forced to question who his brother really was and whether his death was really an accident.
Shot on location in various London Clubs this film contains the hottest club scenes ever captured on film.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well shot club-scene movie with great soundtrack., 1 May 2001
This review is from: Sorted [DVD] [2000] (DVD)
Sorted follows the story of a Carl who travels to London to investigate his brothers death. He becomes tangled in the web of friends that his brother had once been in. This leads Carl to discover a deeper, darker side to the club scene. The film is shot very well but can lack a little pace in the quieter scenes. This is off putting as the rest of the film is so club and music orientated, you become used to it's gritty hard edge. The story is good, but sometimes makes you wish they had delved a little deeper and the ending leaves you wanting more, in a bad way. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a very good film, definately worth buying if you like your dance music and is a fantastic debut for Alex Jovy. Worth watching in Dolby Digital 5.1 if you can, brings it alive. Oh, and turn it up!!

I thought Human Traffic summed up the lives we all led a good few years ago, but being unoptimistic, ordered Sorted... FANTASTIC! - I thought the storyline was great, the acting was excellent on all parts, even Tim Curry's over the top lounge lizard pshycho... The filming in the clubs was amazing, and the soundtrack just had some of the best tracks ever, Leftfield having a good few on there...

Well worth a buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars An American DVD Buyer In London, 22 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Sorted [DVD] [2000] (DVD)
I was very interested in seeing this movie due to it's heralded England Rave club scenes, but unfortunately this film isn't released in America. So I ordered it from Amazon UK & watch it on my computer, and it was worth it. This is one nice DVD. The film which has both incredible visuals & sound, plus it actually has an entertaining storyline as well. Also it has good extras like documentaries, interviews with the cast & director, bloopers, and some of the coolest menus I've ever seen (check it out when you choose a particular chapter and see what happens!). It really is a shame that such a good movie like this isn't availible in the USA, so all of you who has the opportunity to see it in the United Kingdom should check it out, especially if you like Rave/Dance music. Enjoy!
