5.0 out of 5 stars A worthy addition to anyone's collection, 27 Jul 2008
By AquaViola (Nottingham) - See all my reviews
This double CD set includes two evenings (four performances) with the classic team, Graeme Garden, Barry Cryer, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Willie Rushton in Brighton in 1995 and 1996.

These are the unedited episodes, typically with an additional six minutes per episode not heard on the radio. These include rounds which probably shouldn't have gone into the final edit, mispronunciations, which are generally jumped on by the panel to great comic effect, and we discover what happens if you forget to bring the theme tune with you. There are also introductions and conclusions by the producer, and some very funny trailers for the programme.

It should be noted that, according to the producer, one of the Brighton 1995 episodes was included in volume 3, and some of the other material may be familiar to devotees. However, if you are a devotee, you probably have already ordered this without reading this review, at least this far.

There are some Clue CDs which I say "don't get", as you will see from my review of "in search of Mornington Crescent". Should you buy this double CD set? Definitely yes. If you have even remotely liked this programme, get it. With the passing of Humphrey Lyttelton, this is as close as you can get to actually being there. Let's hope there will be more releases like this, maybe even complete series, especially including the late Willie Rushton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sheer Joy, 8 Jul 2009
By Eve (England) - See all my reviews
Another triumph for Graeme Garden in the One Song to the Tune of Another round ("Ground Control to Major Tom" to the tune of "English Country Garden")... the unsurpassed Guess the Barcode round ("Thick white, thick white, thick white, thin white? The Rolling Stones?" suggests Willie)... and all supervised by the Antidotal Master of all Panel Games, Humphrey Lyttelton.

Having just listened to some of the latest series on Radio 4 - the first without Humph - you really appreciate exactly how good his comic timing was. The Live Collection, as it seems to be becoming, gives you an endless opportunity to enjoy what that man could do with Ian Pattinson's scripts. He made them sound as if the words had just occurred to him. Sheer joy.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 stars - not a lot else to say., 13 Dec 2008
By jr (uk) - See all my reviews
I love this. It's a few recordings from Brighton with the wonderful Willie Rushton and the team.
I'm biased. I always loved this show and always will.
If you know this show and liked it then this CD is great for you. If you've no idea what this show is then it might be worth a punt but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. It's clever, erudite, and hilarious. A panel "game" to end all panel games. In fact it's the antidote to all panel games.

Brilliant.
