Product Description

The Sori Yanagi Style Butterfly Stool is a high quality reproduction in the style of the original design. Designed by in 1954 Sori Yanagi combined eastern shapes of his heritage with lessons learnt from Charles and Ray Eames to develop a stool which combined strong design cues with the style and grace of a butterfly. The name Sori Yanagi is only used to describe the characteristics of the goods made to the original design, and not as a trade mark.

Unlike me who didn't take into account that seating height is a mere 37cms - a good 10cms lower than the average chair. So it's definitely a stool rather than a barstool or chair; but very handy for putting one's feet up on (with a cushion) or resting a laptop on or even, gasp, sitting on occasionally. I imagine it might come in handy for fishing! It's an iconic piece obviously - very stylish; but the colour depicted in the Amazon listing is way off...the one I received is a good five tones lighter with attractive, darker stripes/grain; sort of light walnut. You get a much more realistic colour depiction on the Vita Interiors website.
