Product Description

Book Description

An exciting adventure story starring Sophie, Gidaado the Fourth and Chobbal, the albino camel, complete with ruthless bandits, deadly snakes and a camel chase!

Product Description

Sophie lives in Gorom-Gorom with her carnivorous-plant obsessed dad. Despite living there for two years and speaking the local language, Sophie finds it difficult to make friends. So when she meets Gidaado, a young griot (story-teller) she agrees to join him and his albino camel, Chobbal, on a journey to his village. It is not until they have set off that Sophie begins to realise just how dangerous the desert is - it's full of djinns that creep up behind you and jump on your head and make you go mad, not to mention the infamous Moussa ag Litni, a ruthless bandit who steals camels. . .

Chobbal the Albino camel stares balefully from the attractive cover, but in truth turns out to be a bit of a hero (and have you ever seen a camel that doesn't look bored!)

Stephen Davies brings the sights, sounds and creatures of this African backwater to life as we join Sophie on an adventure she didn't expect!

The book arrived in the post today and had me rapidly turning the pages until I reached the thrilling finale.
It didn't take long, but then again its written for someone 30 years younger - now I just need to give it to a child to enjoy too!

My little boy loved this book so much he asked for the next one! It's well written, very descriptive and kept him engaged and excited about Africa (it is obvious from the writing that the author has first hand experience of the area the book is set in which makes it very real). Some of the African names can be tricky for younger readers (my son is 7) but they do encourage questions and make the story all the more exotic and exciting. Highly recommended!

An exciting childrens fast track adventure which gives amazing insight into real African life. Only someone who lives there could describe West African life like this. Great.
