speakers which have a jack that is small may run off headphone socket

I am sure this is a 3.5 mm jack. Standard Ipod size will fit. If you have headphone with larger 6 mm jack you can get an adaptor.

No it doesn't come with a mains adapter. I don't know if you can use one or not, there is a hole with a pin in the middle which says DC IN 4.5V

Only if their jack point is the same size as headphone ones as no extra holes on machine.

it has a special button that stop the loudness but loudness is there to make the bass and backing louder but the secret is good headphones - which can be £15.00 or more for good headphones - so it was probably the headphones with the walkman that altered the loudness
