This walkman has everything you could ever need, provided you don't need a radio. I forfeited the radio as I wanted a slim unit (why don't they make slim tape/radio combis?). The unit is very well made in smart looking metal. A good padded drawstring carry case is included. The charging stand is great, you just plonk it on and in several hours its charged, and lasts about 50 hours provided you don't rewind/ff tapes too much. You can also add an AA battery which increases running time to about 70hrs. The sound quality is superb, although DOLBY system would be good. I personally upgraded to the GROOVE headphones as they have the extra 'BASSY BIT' that goes right in the ear, but the standard phones are reasonable. The walkman has a groove setting which boosts the bass and is really powerful. Blank skip is good, as is the track search. The remote is great and easy to use, ideal when the walkman is in its case or a rucksack etc.
Now the bad bit, and theres only 1. Theres a speed control for the tape on the front, and the 'hold' switch doesn't cover this. so when I go running its always getting knocked. This lead to me returning the unit for an exchange (Ex-621). If you aren't the sporty type and don't miss a radio then this is the walkman for you. My last walkman (Ex-49) lasted 10 years, so a walkman like this should last till tapes are long since forgotten!

I decided to get one after my 6th iPod (now onto my 8th) I longed for the days of bulletproof personal stereos.

I had one for a year and it was fantastic, went days without charging (and these were long days in a Callcenter with a stack of tapes jacked into the phone blasting unsuspecting callers with some smooth analogue funk).

It autodetects and sets the Bias for all Tape types (and the lack of Dolby noise reduction dosnt go amiss it sounds hiss free anyway even with battered tapes that have been in the bottom of a rucksack for weeks).

I used it Skating, mountain biking pretty much everywhere. I broke it after a year and am now hunting for another 5 (need plenty to last me out) and the Sony store near me dosnt sell them anymore (I got the last one they had in 2005).
