I would think about purchasing Vergas Pro 10c Win 7 64 Bit. I have at lease a min 2 major crashes or lockup per day in the Stereoscopic mode.
I try to open a trouble ticket with Sony Tech support were you paid. I was told they wouldn't take the ticket. I'm C++ developer has the lasted debugging tool from Microsoft. Here what I found out Sony Vegas Pro 10c has major threading and memory issues in the (Stereoscopic mode) on Win 7 64 bit version, I offer Sony this info they said no thanks, there development group was aware of these issues!
If you can live with the crashes and lock-out while doing "Stereoscopic work) it a great application, with no techical support on these issues other them removie all appications and leave only Sony Vegas Pro 10c on your system. I disagree with Sony approach, a very poor way out, say it someone else problem, were Sony

I've been using Vegas Pro since version 8. Version 9 was a big improvement in terms of speed and stability.
So far version 10 has been nice and stable. I use the 64 bit version on a quite powerful PC.
However rendering times are between 10% and 20% slower with the same footage, on the same PC rendering to the same file type.
This is quite disappointing - I'd expected if anything version 10 would be the same or faster.
Of the new features the image stabilising is nice but does crop around 15% of the image and reduces image quality slightly.
I've no plan to create 3d movies so the new 3d features are of no use to me personally.
Other than that its virtually identical to version 9. I'm really not sure the upgrade is worth it unless creating 3d videos are important.

I have the Sony Movie Studio HD platinum production Suite. The Suite version has a teaching video CD which was excellent, BUT it had difficulty rendering a 7 minute HD video (1280x720) an kept giving me a low memory error (Due to the fact this is a 32 bit program and only recognises 4 gig of memory max.)(You can solve this issue by selecting 'advanced render', 'custom', and selecting a lower 'bit rate'(from 5Mbps to 3 Mbps) for the render, but this of course lowers the quality of the video but it is still of good quality).
I decided to try the Vegas Pro trial (from the Sony website) but on installation, Vegas Pro and Movie Studio were 'bugged' and wouldn't start.
On removal of the Vegas Pro trial it wiped some of my other programs (Adobe reader, Fraps etc and messed up my steam (game/msn type program) and Movie Studio would not run.(A major hassle!)
Undeterred I ordered the disc upgrade and uninstalled Movie Studio. The disc version on this date is version 10a. On installation of Vegas 10a (which worked fine) it said that there was a newer version I could download (from the Sony site: Version 10c). On installation of version 10c, Vegas Pro again bugged out! I erased all trace of Vegas then just installed the downloaded version 10C using the key supplied from the Disc upgrade.
Vegas Pro Version 10c works a treat and again is stable, it is basically an advanced version of Movie Studio 10 and gives a few more features and more control over the video editing and as it has a '64 bit' option, I can now render that HD video with no problems. Rendering the same 7 minute HD video in 64 bit also provides a speed boost of around 15%. For this price, the upgrade is worth it if you're looking for a few more features/ control/ trying to render HD.
The supplied and downloaded DVD Architect authoring program clashes with Vegas Pro! So I uninstalled that, as I mainly upload to the internet, the DVD disc authoring is not really a huge issue for me.
PROS: More control and more features, very stable when working, if you run a 64 bit OS with lots of memory and a fast PC then this is definitely worth it.
Price, upgrade disc is £107, plus a copy of Movie Studio on its own is around £32 = £140.00. (Direct from Sony, the full program is about £545.00, upgrade is around £160 -£330 depending what programs you have.)
[Alternative competitor is Adobe Premiere CS5 priced at around £750.00. Around half if you are a student/ have kids in school/ college that 'want' to use it.]
CONS: Very buggy when trying to get it to work, Sony must try harder to solve their own conflicting programs.
Lack of training/ reading material. 500 page manual on the disc as pdf file! (I have Movie Studio Platinum Suite which included a DVD with basic show and tell instructions which was very useful and applies to Sony Vegas Pro.)
The Creative Cow website and Youtube have some helpful videos otherwise you have to buy a book from the Sony site which is expensive due to delivery and USA import tax+ handling fees but you can download a training video for intermediate to advanced training for a fair price £55 (compared to adobe around £80 but adobe also has printed books and there are also many cheaper third-party books on their software, check amazon. ;) )
