I was looking for a tripod to take on holiday (alpine walking in Switzerland), so wanted something small & light whilst still being sturdy enough to hold a DSLR rock-steady. Also wanted to avoid those piddley travel tripods that stand a maximum of 15cm tall, and mean that you're either constantly looking for a conveniently situated wall to put the thing on, or you're crawling on your hands and knees just to look through the viewfinder.
The VCT-R100 fulfilled every one of my requirements; It is basic as tripods go, but strikes the perfect balance between size/weight and portability/practicality. And I can still barely believe it was less than £20. Bargain.

I have just now received my tripod. And it's exactly as it looks in the pictures. This item is superb value for money as it has the typically rigid, quality feel as you would expect from a sony product.
It is a mighty compact tool which extends without losing the rigid feel. A Must Buy.

Great little tripod. bought it as a travel tripod for a trip to australia and its been a great help. packs down really small, fitting i a very small day pack with plenty of room for slr, raincoat, and bottle of water.

Very easy to use, very light and feels very sturdy for the price i paid.

The one thing i would say is that this is not the tallest tripod when fully extended. so think about what you intend to use the tripod - i found that, when trying to take photographs over the fence of a motorway brige, that it was JUST too small for the job.

As a travel tripod, it is great value for money.

I bought this tripod thinking 'it's cheap, but not the cheapest so it should be OK'. I also stupidly thought that Sony's name would be a mark of some sort of quality (should have known better from experience). This tripod functions well and is fairly light and portable, so great if you just want to be able to take still shots whilst out and about.

However, I have several major gripes, the biggest of which being IT'S NOT BIG ENOUGH! Fully extended, this tripod barely comes higher than my stomach. I guess I must have thought this wouldn't be a problem when I bought it, but it's been nothing but a pain, especially for video where the tilt of the camera to get people's heads in is much more noticeable. Although the manoeuvrability of the top part is good, it is clumsy at times which is again a problem if you are working with video. The base is not nearly wide enough meaning if you have a heavy lens on your camera, the whole tripod becomes top-heavy and unstable. The legs are incredibly flimsy and I am surprised they haven't broken yet. It also does not go down very low (perhaps less of a requirement for the average person, but a problem for me nonetheless). I have found myself spending far more time adjusting my tripod than taking photos or shooting footage and that takes all the fun out of it.

My advice to people looking at this tripod is to spend that little bit more and get something more substantial (or at the very least something that extends to near eye level).

I'm with the other guys, this is a wee gem.

I bought one of these a month ago and used it on holiday. It's really well made, feels quite classy (if a tripod can be classy), easy to use, and comes with its own nylon carrier case (though in reality you probably won't use that and will just shove it in a rucksack like me).

For under £20 it's a complete bargain...

I brought this for my first tripod and find it incredibly easy to use and transport about, ok its not that high but if you want landscape or wildlife pictures its fine. If you use a telescopic lens then to stop the weight being top heavy use the adaptor on the lens to fix it on the tripod to balance it out (instead of the base of the camera). It is extremely lightweight and portable. For people like me just getting into the world of photography as a hobby its excellent for learning and experimenting.

Well, for the money I paid, I wasn't really expecting a carbon fibre tripod, but wasn't expecting shoddy one either. However, I was a bit surprised when I recieved this product. Given the price, it definitely stands above my expectations. It comes in a handy carry case, with a nice little instruction manual. It takes seconds to set up and very easy too. Ideal for travel IMO. WOuld recommend if someone's just getting their first Tripod. Pros would want a better one for sure.
