Sony SmartWatch 2 CMS Copy

Introducing the Sony SmartWatch 2

The most advanced smartwatch on the market, the Sony SmartWatch 2 not only has the longest battery life, but it is the world's first water-resistant smartwatch with NFC connectivity. As well as featuring call-handling and messaging notification, it also acts as a music remote and has an Android app interface, making it the ideal all-in-one alternative mobile device.

Long Battery Life

With a power-efficient processor for optimal battery performance and instead of a backlight, a transflective screen which uses reflective elements to provide better readability in bright sunlight, the SmartWatch 2 lasts up to four days under normal usage conditions before it needs to be recharged.

Multi-Functional

A second screen for your Android smartphone or tablet (4.0 or later), the SmartWatch 2 allows you to make and receive calls using a wireless headset, reject and mute calls, browse your call log and check text messages, emails, Facebook™ and Twitter™ notifications. But as well as enhancing your device's existing functionality, the SmartWatch 2 offers unique new benefits too. Thanks to Bluetooth® connectivity, you can use it as a remote for your Walkman™ or other digital media player and, being a wireless accessory, it is ideal for pairing with large-screen devices, such as the newly announced Xperia™ Z Ultra, in situations that call for discrete usage.

Convenient and Easy-to-Use

With the Sony SmartWatch 2 you'll never miss a thing. Acting as an Android smartphone remote, you can keep track of everything without ever taking your phone out of your pocket or bag. When a call, message or other notification comes in, the smartwatch will gently vibrate on your wrist to let you know.

Pairing with your NFC phone is easily done by simply touching one device on the other and connecting instantly. One touch is all it takes.

From productivity tools to games and entertainment, there are more apps available for the SmartWatch 2 than any other smartwatch on the market. With more than 200 unique apps dedicated to Sony, your SmartWatch 2 can be personalised to seamlessly suit your needs, whether you're on the go, keeping fit, in a business meeting or simply at home. From mapping apps that let you check your route with a quick glance at your wrist to controlling presentations remotely using Presentation Pal, you can experience a range of new functions, without ever needing to reach for your phone.

Form, Function and Sleek Design

Drawing on the same design language as seen in Sony's latest Xperia smartphones, the SmartWatch 2 combines a slim minimalistic appearance and premium build quality with dust-proofing, water resistance and a scratch-resistant, sunlight readable display, so you can exercise outside whether it's raining or sunny.

What's more, the SmartWatch 2 can be personalised with any standard 24 mm wristband and there are a number of stylish strap options from Sony, including metal, brown or black leather and five silicone colours. You can also choose between several different watch faces and themes.

When not connected to your phone, the SmartWatch 2 works as a standalone advanced digital watch, where you can read previously received notifications, access the time, set your alarm or even use it as a light when searching for your keys.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love it. 2 April 2014
Colour Name:Black Metal|Verified Purchase
My SW2 seems to be put together very well. My phone is an HTC One with NFC so connecting is a doddle. With the phone unlocked I touch the back of the watch (which is not switched on) and it powers up instantly and is up and running before I can put it on my wrist. First time your phone will tell you what to do and it is all very simple. I use the watch apps for gmail, text messages and phone calls and they work splendidly so I no longer miss stuff if my phone is not immediately to hand or I've got the volume turned too low.
I have tried a handful of music players and have settled on "SmartMote". This app lets you decide on taps or swipes and is very responsive - much quicker than the others that I tried. It is just wonderful to adjust volume, pause or change tracks without having to take the phone out of your pocket. I can't tell you how convenient that is.
Having a calendar on the watch is also such an advantage. I actually have two of them on my watch. Each displays information in a different way so I choose one or the other depending on what I want to know.
I have found the extension to Google maps to work very well and I would recommend "Smartwatch Shoppin List".
But a word or two of caution. There is a promotional video on Youtube which shows a Sony product manager flicking her wrist to activate the screen. This feature has been withdrawn. I expect it's because of their collaboration with Runtastic. After all, the screen would be on full blast at all times as you were running and that would drain the battery in no time at all. Also, although there are indeed some 300 or more apps for the watch, it's just the same as the app market as a whole - some are great, some are not so good and some are downright useless.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic little smartwatch. 8 Oct 2013
By RW1983
Colour Name:Black Metal
A great product, that was really easy to set up and customise. It's not got as many apps available as I'd of liked, but the number available will increase over time.

I bought this for work, I work with clients all day long (I'm a Barber) and it's really awkward for me to keep looking at my phone when I get a phone call or text. The smartwatch makes this a lot easier, as I just have to glance at it.

I'm using it with the Sony Xperia z1, so can't comment on how well it syncs with Samsung etc.

The battery life is good, the only negative is that you can receive calls on the watch, however, you can only reject via text (you can preset the replies in settings,) or you can answer the phone.

The big disappointment here, is that when you answer the phone, there is no loud speaker built into the watch, which for me would have been the perfect addition, because of this, it simply answers the phone on your handset.

I can see the use if you're using a bluetooth headset or an in car system as it connects you straight to either default device. So it's helpful in the car and works well.

I can now screen calls and read all my texts, e-mails, Facebook and Twitter notifications without having to get my phone out of my pocket.

Facebook and Twitter can be customised to allow you to receive notifications from certain people or just direct messages. This is good, as when I'm working I don't want loads of pointless 'like this picture to save 10,000 cats.....' but I do want the, 'what time are you open too' PM's.

All in all a great watch, a lovely metal strap. It's nice, eye catching but would of loved it so much more if it had a built in speaker.....

Two problems:
1. Sadly, it's not possible to answer calls with the SW2 unless your phone is a Sony Xperia.
This is not mentioned in the product description, but it is in the description of the 'Call handling smart extension' on Google Play, which you won't look at until you buy your watch.

2. I purchased the SW2 with the metal wrist band as I thought it would look better. But the vibration is causing a lot of rattling noise and it's so embarrassingly loud as if I was wearing an electric shaver! So I had to purchase the silicone strap, which looks OK and the vibration is now less noisy. The SW2 that is sold with the silicone strap is cheaper, I wish I had bought that one in the first place. I now hope that someone will benefit from this review.

Otherwise, it's nice not to miss calls in noisy environments such as out in the street when your phone is in your bag or a loose pocket and you cannot feel it vibrating. Though you still have to fish it out to answer calls if you're not an Xperia owner, but you can reject it and send a quick pre-composed message if you don't want to talk.
It's also quite convenient taking a glance at texts and emails. Though I haven't found an extension for my current email client (Aqua Mail), so I can only check my emails on Gmail.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great companion...but 25 Feb 2014
By Nathan
Colour Name:Black Metal|Verified Purchase
As with most of these reviews there's a definite "marmite" issue with the SW2. From the off though I loved it, it was great in a busy office environment, in meetings and whilst driving to give me enough of an update to keep in touch with things enough to be of benefit.

The software update that came a couple of months back had a marked improvement and also added a load of additional watch faces, something it seems everyone always wants more of it.

Battery life was great, and with the added software available (in particular WatchOn) it was really very powerful.

My only issue that 4 months in I've just had to return mine. The front glass had started to come away from the actual watch body and was clearly just waiting to fail fully.

Amazon though as always resolved this immediately, with no quibbling and a refund issued immediately.

I may pick up a replacement SW2, but with the rumours of the Google Watch making an appearance in June I might just go back to my Tag for a few months.
