All our innovations folded into one

You're demanding and why shouldn't you be? You don't just want any old tablet. You want one that will let you enjoy PlayStation Certified games, access over 15 million songs, throw video straight to your TV without a wire in sight and even dim your living room lights. And that's just for starters. You want one that's slim and light, easy to hold in the hand for hours on end and a doddle to use. So when you fancy browsing the web, listening to music or reading books, it's all there ready to go with a swift swipe of your finger.

We love playing games

Such a great way to relieve stress, don't you think? Come home from work, pick up your tablet, let off a bit of steam with Crash Bandicoot, Grand Theft Auto or Cool Boarders. Did you know this is the first tablet ever that will let you download and play games from the PlayStation Store? You can even use your PlayStation 3 DUALSHOCK3 controller with it or customise your own on-screen controls. And if you just want to keep on gaming, go to Android Marketplace and choose from thousands of Android games. It's gamers heaven.

Grab your personal music, video or pictures and 'throw' them to an internet connected television, hi-fi or photo frame.

One remote to control them all

A tablet that works as a universal remote? Yes, you heard right. Start up the movie on your living room TV, turn up the volume on your home theatre system, dim the lights, all through your trusty tablet. Its built-in remote includes a 'learn' feature that works with all major brands so don't think you've got to have Sony equipment in your house. And as for all those remote commanders scattered over the coffee table and down the sides of the sofa…goodbye!

Throw your stuff around

You want things to be easy, fuss-free. So let's say you just spent a day out in town meeting friends. You took some pictures in the park and now you want to get them on the digital photo frame on the mantelpiece. Simple. Just grab and 'throw' them to the photo frame over your Wi-Fi. No setting up or connecting cables. No plugging memory cards in and out. Whatever you're watching or listening to on your tablet, you can watch or listen to on almost any internet connected TV, Hi-Fi or photo frame, wirelessly. It's quick and seamless, designed to make you grin rather than groan.

Just great for entertainment

This is a tablet that's made for fun. Tap the screen and get access to over 15 million songs, 1 million books, over 200,000 apps and the latest movies through the built-in Sony Entertainment Network, Reader Store and Android Marketplace apps. Sort out all your music and reading before you go on your hols. Banish the spectre of nights in with nothing on the box. Create your own army of apps. All in seconds using your index finger.

Sony Entertainment Network, Reader Store and Android Marketplace gives access to millions of songs and books, thousands of apps and latest movies.

Shoot, edit and share

So you're sitting in a coffee shop when a couple of buskers come in and start playing one of your all-time favourite songs. Just before the management eject them with cries of 'On your bike, lads!', you manage to film their stoic performance on your tablet. All in glorious high definition with just a tap or two. Then as soon as they've gone, you edit the clip with another tap or two and send to facebook or YouTube for the world to enjoy. You never know, it might become an Internet hit!

Never weighs you down

It's not just about weight but the way that weight feels as you move around. This is a very light tablet at under 600g, about as heavy as your average hardback but it's the unique off centre weighting that makes it so comfortable to hold for hours on end. You can be reading a book while walking, watching a movie while sitting or playing a game while standing and this tablet will always feel natural as the weight has been shifted closer to your palm. You'll find it feels almost like an extension of your hand, something you'd be happy to carry around every minute of the day.

All of the web

Such an exciting place, be a shame if you couldn't enjoy it in all its glory. You can get on the Internet in seconds with this tablet, surf faster and explore with ease using our most fluid touchscreen ever. No spinning egg timers or juddery scrolling. An efficient Android operating system lets you skim seamlessly from page to page and enjoy the web the way it was meant to be enjoyed with full support including Adobe Flash for silky animations and video. That clip of the buskers playing in the coffee shop will look as real as the moment you filmed it. We call it realism.

5.0 out of 5 stars 3rd time lucky!! 10 Oct 2011
By Andreas Iacovou TOP 500 REVIEWER
Style Name:16GB Memory, WiFi
To give some perspective this is my third Android tablet. I have previously had the Motorola Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Both were good tablets in their own right but had their niggles. This is what I like and dislike about the Sony.

Likes:

It is solidly built, no creaking and feels like it could withstand some punishment.

Sony has played with the software but the tweaks it has made have in my opinion improved the user interface. Some really clever features, my favourite being the ability to categorise your apps in the main apps section. Also latest Android version (3.2) available now.

The unique shape makes this decent to hold and it really does work well. The angle makes viewing and typing a lot better, especially when using on a table.

Full size SD card included (see also dislikes)- cheaper than micro sd.

The universal remote feature is fantastic as far as it goes. It will get more refined as new versions appear (this is version 1.0). At the moment is does not support 'activities' which is more than one action (e.g switch on TV and then DVD player with one button press) but I'm sure this will improve.

I use the tablet with the optional Sony dock and really like the 'drop in charge system. The Samsung dock was fiddly to use and required two hands to remove as did the Xoom dock. This is easy and quick.

The screen is a unique 9.4". This is great as it gives you more pixels per inch than a 10.1" display resulting in a sharper image, great for watching movies. The viewing angles are also good and the slightly smaller screen is easier to navigate with your fingers.

I don't like:

When not using the dock the charging system / cord is fiddly and does not feel very durable.

Full size SD card cannot be mounted and used as a mass storage device on your PC to transfer files. In other words the only way you can get files onto it is by transferring them through the tablet....WHY???? Hopefully this will change in time.

Why do Sony (and most others) price the their tablets so close to the iPads price point. Price it £100 less and give people a real tough decision to make when deciding what to buy. You can't beat Apple's marketing machine and need to build some traction in the market, so price accordingly. Why can't they see this?

Overall IMO this is the best Android tablet on the market. Its not perfect but better than the rest and I recommend.

4.0 out of 5 stars sony s tablet 8 Oct 2011
Style Name:16GB Memory, WiFi
Ive had the tablet for a week now and had no problems with it what so ever. I spent along time looking for a tablet, and nearly bought the asus only because of all the good reviews. When I went to currys/pcworld and had a look at the asus the screen didn't seem as responsive as the sony tablet, the sreen wasn't as bright neither. I paid 399 16gb wifi only, it has an sd card slot and you will have to buy a usb cable if you want to connect it to your pc. I have a htc phone and found the usb lead fits the sony tablet fine. You get the usual android market apps, and the first one to go on was angry birds because its law......... no lag what so ever very responsive screen, so you wont have to use the app killer because all the games on the tablet works fine. It comes with crash bandicoot and a pinball game from the ps1 days, crash is brilliant. Front and back camera, with 720hd recording which is very clear. The camera at the back is 5mp and the camera at the front is 1.3, ther is no flash so day time shots is the best. I tried to connect the sony tablet via the usb cable to the ps3 but it keeps saying does not recognise it......strange becuse it is a sony product, it has DLNA but not tried it yet. I'm getting 6 to 8hours from the battery, but I havent really been on it for long periods at time. The internet browser is very quick and the screen is very responsive when browsing. I'm Very pleased with the sony tablet, hope this review helps.

I love this tablet so much. I use it every day, for movies, youtube, facebook, games. It's perfect. It's actually got me into reading, with the book style design to it, it feels perfect in your hands. Not to mention you can play ps1 games on it perfectly! With ps3 controller support! It's got everything you could ever need and more. (Sd card slot!)
