Track Movements, Communications and Entertainment

With its removable core containing advanced sensor technology, the Sony SmartBand SWR10 feels your movements and sends the data to your Smartphone. But what makes the SmartBand really smart is the innovative Lifelog Android app that automatically records your physical, social and entertainment activities. With the Lifelog app, you can see how active you were, where you went, what pictures you took, where and when, and how you’ve been communicating with your world during any given day. For instance, the Lifelog app knows if you’ve been running, walking and how you’ve slept. It counts steps, calculates speed, and can even monitor your sleep pattern and wake you up when you’ve slept enough according to your sleep cycle. By tracking body movements, it calculates and measures the best time to wake you up and gently vibrates to bring you out of sleep.

This innovative life logging app will also help you set daily goals, monitor your progress and challenge your all-time bests. Look ahead in time to understand just how much more you need to run to achieve your daily activity goal. Moreover, Lifelog lets you know what the weather is going to be like tomorrow and days after. When a call, message, Facebook update or other notification comes in, SmartBand will vibrate gently on your wrist to let you know. It also has LED indicators which light up to show that SmartBand is active. You’ll never miss a thing.

Discover Just How Much You Live, Have Complete Control of Your Life

Special moments need special attention. At any time of any day, when you press the Life Bookmark key on your SmartBand, everything going on at that moment will be caught and remembered forever. Which means you can see how much you were communicating with your friends, what was said, when and how. The Lifelog app collects all your camera and music activities and presents them in a fun and animated interface along with your activity. On any day, you can see the pictures and videos you took; the games you played; the music you were listening to and how long you listened to it for. You can look back on your life and your journey through it. Giving you complete control over every aspect of your life, GPS enables you to see where you’ve been – from a restaurant you visited to the location of a photo – and an edit function lets you write your own personal comment into each Life Bookmark. What’s more, when you’re enjoying your music on the move, you can tap the band to play, pause and skip tracks.

Seamless Connection, Great Design

In constant contact with your Smartphone via Bluetooth and to the cloud via your Smartphone, you can be assured of an always up to date activity log. Connecting is easy using NFC or a standard Bluetooth connecting procedure. When you go out of range (up to 10 m) of your Smartphone, a gentle vibrating SWR10 alert will let you know. So you never forget your phone. And even when you’re out of range, this wearable technology saves information about what you do and automatically passes it on when you re-connect. You can go running and SmartBand will add your performance to Lifelog app when you’re home. Incorporating a removable core unit and a stylish and comfortable wristband, the SmartBand is a 24/7 wearable device. Discreet and waterproof, you can keep it with you whatever you do. With a range of vibrant colours and styles to choose from, it’s designed to look great with any clothing style and an iconic metal Sony fastening button and LEDs give it a premium look and feel.

Update 25/05/14:

Having read other review, I feel I have to clarify what the smartband can do and its limitations.

It tracks movement, mainly steps. If you do an activity that does not have recognisable steps such as say yoga, using equipment in the gym, rowing etc it probably won't appear as you might like. The option to log cycling and driving has not yet been rolled out - planned for the summer I understand, so don't expect this to work now.
Sleep: It has the option to monitor your sleep. As with all trackers, this is basic. You tell it when you go to bed and when you wake up. During this time, if you move your arms about a lot - you're awake, you move them a little - you're in light sleep, you keep your arms still - you're in deep sleep. It does no more than that. It's a rough guide. Should you go for a run first thing in the morning and forget to switch it to day mode, it simply logs this time as awake, and no steps. It's up to you to switch it back to day mode.
If you set it to switch automatically every day to sleep mode say 10pm to 6am, if you stay up one night reading and barely moving, it will probably log this as light / deep sleep. If you're still up working on your computer, ditto.
It might be called a smartband but it is not a psychic band :-)

Accuracy - for some people it seems better than others. For me personally, worn for the last 20 days alongside by fitbit one, it under reads consistently by about 5%. I can live with that. If you want absolute accuracy for your workout use Endomondo or FitBit One (ie not worn on the wrist). See further info below on some actual figures if you wish.

Note - there is a delay between you doing steps and it updating the app showing the steps.

I got rather excited when Sony released the smart band, the futures were great so I thought let's do it! Firstly and that hurts me the most this is just a very expensive pedometer... And not a very accurate one either. It works on the movement of the wrist which believe it or not you use the least when walking, running. So for example it thinks that I'm running when I'm indeed washing my hair in a shower. Sleep tracker is again based on your movement during sleep. If you sleep still then great but when you move about like me then you awake whole night.... When I actually sleep 8 hrs. Also why do I need internet connection to update data from the band?! I thought it was Bluetooth connectivity... Or is that just for the notifications?! Notifications are great but not all come through to the band and you can do nothing about that. Also but this is possibly my phone hardware issue Sony phone, Sony band why can I not have Bluetooth connected band and WiFi on at the same time?! Neither work... Even if the hardware requiment are met. Come on Sony you can do better than that.
Also refreshing the app doesn't always do anything and sometimes it takes like half an hour to get you data of the band on to the app...
And I got it as I cycle a lot and wanted to track my fittes.... It doesn't work as you hardly move your wrist while cycling... So it doesn't record any of the workout.
Sorry Sony but huge dissapointment.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I will treat this review as a lifelog for a week with the Sony SmartBand.
Day 1
--------
I connected it up last night with my HTC one m8. I set my sleep pattern 12.30 to 9. As I went to bed the band was being charged.

To my surprise I slept for 13 minutes and burned of 813 calories while sleeping!

While doing 90 minutes of tai chi no activity was recorded. As far as the lifelog understood, I was just standing around. I did have the gps connected.

I had a few problems getting my HTC music player to work at all while the band was connected. With some fiddling, switching the phone on and off its now working.
The controls are simple. One tap to play or stop. The tapping times out after activation. So let's say you were playing a track then finished listening. To restart, you push the side button once, one tap then it starts playing where you left off. 2 taps to skip forward, 3 taps to skip back . The stop tap deactivates the player. Tapping is actually quite practical and simple. If running or you want to stop the music quickly the taps are great. Volume taps would be very useful.
I was going to start with a 2 star. But while reviewing I switched the phone on and off which brought back my music player. I think the tapping alone for the music player will prove to be most useful. As I run with bluetooth headphones, phones safely tucked away in hipbag, Skipping through a play list will be super. I wish the smartwatch offered more tapping functionality.

A short 3 minute drive in my car did not record at all. I'll see if I can fine tune that.

I will be running this week, so will give it all a proper test. Hopefully the star rating will climb as I discover more things.

I bought this for 2 main purposes. 1) for the media player remote function, and 2) to use as a pedometer. I have used it in conjunction with a Sony Xperia M2 Aqua.
As a remote the band is quite clunky but works okay once you get used to it. As advertised it does 1 tap to pause, 2 to skip and 3 to skip back, however it does require you to push the power button before each action you try to take. There is also a delay of about a second before it does the requested action. I feel this feature is yet to be perfected but I will continue to use it as it is still marginally more convenient than getting my phone out of my pocket each time I need to pause/skip, etc.
As a pedometer it isn't particularly accurate, I note others state it underestimates by around 5%. I admit that my primary source of exercise is walking (for which the band is fine) and playing football. Due to the inconsistent start/stop nature of team sports the band is pretty useless. I played for 2 hours and it recorded that I had walked for 30 mins. I imagine for jogging/running it is more accurate due to the regular nature of the motion.

Other things to note; the band (and associated functionality required to use it such as NTC/Bluetooth) do rinse the phone's battery. I can normally go 4-5 days before needing a charge. With the band/bluetooth activated I need to charge by the end of the second day.
I can't comment on the sleep recording function as I tend to take it off at night.
The notification function for sms, email, etc. is useful. the band vibrates lightly when you receive notifications so you won't ever miss a message.
Overall, I think this is quite a cool device but I'm not sure if it is worth £25. It feels like a work in progress and expect that it's appeal will increase once the various functions are perfected and made more user-friendly and precise.
