There is no doubt that the latest Sony to carry the Vaio name is a good looking machine, but does it perform as smartly as it looks?
Well for my money, yes it does.
The i5 processor is a good one, and is pretty quick at doing most tasks, even with quite intensive graphics applications and watching online TV. BBC iPlayer is superb, and the sound quality is actually pretty decent for a laptop.
The 4Mb on onboard RAM certainly help to keep things moving along at a good speed, and the 640Gb hard drive will allow you to save even large movie and image files without making too much of a dent in your storage capacity.
If you do fill the hard drive you have so many options these days, including cheap hard drives and cloud storage, that you will probably never need anything bigger.
I don't really like trackpads as such, but tested this one and found it to be very sensitive and easy to use. I ended up turning off the 'multi-touch' elements of it and just using the simple drag and click elements.
I then connected an Amazon Basics wireless mouse (which I also use on my Mac) and it loaded up and worked without any fuss at all.
In fact, one of the nicest things about this laptop is the way that it just gets on with the job, without the constant user intervention that used to be required to do even the simplest of things only a few years ago.
Once you have removed some of the 'bloatware' things get even better! McAfee antivirus software seems to come with every new machine these days, but I removed it from mine, as I prefer Avast (which is free for all time, not just the first year).
There are 3 shortcut keys on the front panel which lead you to the assistance pages for your particular machine, the internet and the image gallery.

I have only been using this laptop for a few weeks and am only a casual user but, so far, I am very happy with my choice. It was delivered to me in Spain and arrived well packed and on time. It looks good and feels good. The screen is very clear, the keyboard is solid and quiet and I have no problems with the "all-in-one" touchpad. Initial set-up was no problem and my wireless connection found itself immediately. There were a few pre-loaded programs that I didn't want but they were easily removed. It's base does not in any way get so hot in use as my previous old and tired Toshiba, and start-up is so much quicker. I had a slight problem in that I couldn't access the on-screen manual but an e-mail to Sony brought an immediate and helpful reply to resolve this issue.

As a casual user who only uses this laptop in situ I am not qualified to give an in-depth appraisal but it suits me well.

I read previous reviews and thought this would be a good buy for my needs, and I defo right! Amazing, sleek and fast. Not had it long though, but so far have not had a problem. Only con is the touch pad, which at times seems a little loose, but thats probably only because I'm used to the mac touch pad. Great buy! defo worth the money =]

Pros:
- Great looking laptop, far superior in appearance to anything in this price bracket
- Reasonably lightweight, comfortable to hold and fantastic build quality that you'd expect from Sony
- Perfect keyboard - beautifully spaced, making typing really easy. Inclusion of a numberpad is welcome.
- Good performance from the i5 processor

Cons:
- Could possibly find faster processor for £400+ spend
- Touch pad can be a little sensitive - if you're used to leaving one finger ready to click whilst using another to scroll, you may click inadvertently which can be frustrating

Overall:
- Fantastic laptop, beautifully made and looks great. Performance is solid and would thoroughly recommend!

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I received my brand new Sony Vaio at the beginning of the week, arriving home to find it waiting for me in its classy dark box with Sony inscribed on the side. Classy box ... classy laptop I thought and I thought right! This is a beautifully styled laptop, curvy, smooth and sexy. Under the hood it boasts some fantastic specs to match its glossy exterior. Setup was quick and simple so I was very quickly getting to grips with my lovely new toy.
The new Intel i5 processor is lightning fast and I can notice a marked improvement over my older i3 processor. It features Intel Turbo Boost technology which improves processor speed should you require it during demanding applications. The 4 GB RAM is ample memory for multitasking and the 640GB HDD gives you plenty of room to store music, memories, documents, video and photos. This wonderful laptop also offers HDD Shock Protection, which will protect your hard drive if your laptop is knocked over or dropped.
The keyboard is responsive and the keys nicely spaced. I personally like the separate numeric keypad - great for when you are typing figures or for doing calculations. The screen is bright and clear, the colours vibrant but not so much so as to hurt the eye. The 15.5" screen is supported by the Intel HD graphics card. Rich stereo sound means you can enjoy your music and enhances film watching on the DVD drive. An HDMI interface is also a nice feature.
Whilst the `all-in-one' touchpad is something to get used to and I admit I would probably have preferred buttons at the bottom but it is not too difficult to master. Its multi-touch functionality is very easy to get to grips with and is something I would have missed having had it on my previous laptop.
