Within a couple of hours out of the box the Sony STR-DG710 was wirelessly connected to my router, updated and auto calibrated. It was a lot easier than the previous amp as the settings are all menu driven on the TV’s screen. It is used in conjunction with a Sony KDL-32D3000 TV, a Sony BDP-S780 Blu-ray/SACD Player and a Samsung Smart PVR. These devices work flawlessly via Amazon Basics High Speed HDMI cables. The amplifier is driving a Bose Acoustimass 6 speaker system. I flicked out the plastic caps from the speaker terminals to connect the speakers with banana plugs. A lot easier than poking speaker wires into tiny holes.
The amplifier plays my 5.1 surround SACDs in rich, full, spacious dynamic sound via HDMI PCM.
It also plays Freeview via the Samsung Smart PVR in 5.1 surround. Blu-ray movies sound better than any cinema that I have been ever been in. I cannot comment on the 3D capabilities as I don’t have a 3D TV.
Surround modes, HiFi, and WiFi are all awesome.
I would recommend anyone purchasing this amp also purchased all interconnects at the same time. I didn't have a HDMI cable when I started setting it up, so I couldn't get the on-screen menus on my TV (impossible). As soon as I acquired a HDMI cable and had full assess to menus, it didn't take long. Auto cal with the microphone supplied takes seconds!....and now I have a calibrated surround system, I know what I have been missing.
I have it configured to use the optical output from my Freesat TV, and the surround sound produced is a whole new experience when compared to my previous amp (10 years old with no autocal facility).
The internet radio function doesn't hold as many stations as I expected. I have "Tune-in" app on phone that gets stations I cant get on this amp.
I definately recommend downloading a media share app for your smartphone to allow streaming music to this amp.
