This was bought a good fw years ago while VHS tapes were still being readily sold in the UK. This DVD/VCR has served us well as both an audio video controller and a backup device. It's timer functions worked a treat for both DVD and VHS before we moved to Virgin Media. Since the switch we haven't tried timer record but the normal record function works just fine and whilst the DVD menus it creates aren't as flashy as commercial ones they work great and are easy to navigate. Playback quality is good even without HD upscaling and the like. Unfortunately times have changed and everything is going to High Definition and digital media however some titles will take years if not centuries to find their way from VHS to the new world of Bluray and video files. This device provides a sturdy and reliable salvation for the VHS and definately shouldn't be relagated to the spare room just yet. Its ability to convert to DVD some classic recordings that would otherwise be lost makes it a vital part of our setup and will definately not be going anywhere for the next few years.

Not one for the technically illiterate - we have hadhis for two years and never worked out how to make it do anything other than play dvd's and videos. Its meant to pre-record from the tv but don't count on it - like others I get a 30% success rate. It certainly cant copy video to dvd as far as I can see having spent several weeks trying. DEsigned by a maniac. Good thing its withdrawn from sale. The instruction manual is some kind of sick joke. Sony needs to think again about its products. Amazing John lewis stocks stuff like this.

slipper-esque 24 Nov 2007
By Kelly A. - Published on Amazon.com
I bought these both in the gold and the black and for whatever reason, the black pair have worked out a lot better. The shoes themselves are pretty flimsy, more like slippers than real shoes. They've held up alright so far (3 weeks), but i don't expect them to last too long. The gold in particular almost feel like they're made of a thinner material, so you can see where your big toe kinda pushes at it, even after you've taken them off. In that way, the gold's gotten kinda bent out of shape already. The black doesn't seem to do that. For the price, I'd say the black are worthwhile. The gold aren't.
