This inexpensive battery charger from Sony is currently being offered by Amazon for around a tenner and represents fantastic value for money. The charger unit is small and light, only 100g without batteries, and connects to the mains via a supplied cable rather than plugging directly into a socket as some models do - the illustration doesn't show this clearly.
It is suitable for worldwide use being 100V - 240V input; it has a safety timer and can detect non-rechargeable batteries if accidently put in. It takes about seven to eight hours to charge your batteries, and any quantity between 1 and 4 can be charged at any one time; amber light goes out when the batteries are fully charged. It comes supplied with 4 Sony NI-MH AA rechargeable batteries - mine were actually 1800mAh capacity. It can also charge AAA size batteries.
I'm not sure that the Sony BCG-34HLD would be suitable for charging the older NI-CD batteries; the instructions only refer to NI-MH and the troubleshooting section of the instruction manual says to only charge this type of battery.
This charger is great for everyday use and would be easy to take on holiday, for your camera and MP3 player batteries etc, because of its voltage and compact size. Highly recommended at the price.
