Excellent product, 26 Dec 2011
This review is from: Sony Playstation3 320GB Slim Console (Video Game)
Bought this for my grown up son, 36, and was allowed 15 minutes play time. I loved it and
I am 59. One for me, perhaps? Delivery time was spot on, too.

It's a beast of a system!, 6 Feb 2012

The PS3 system is an absolute colossal games console both in size, features, and bang for the buck.
You can play games like Call Of Duty and other cross platform games online for free on the Playstation Network. It has at least half of the shared games library with the Xbox 360. Including franchises like Call Of Duty, Battlefield, Mass Effect, Fifa, NBA, Assassins Creed, Elder Scrolls etc. All of which are totally free to play online and if they have online multiplayer you will not have to pay a monthly subscription to use that feature. Unlike with the Xbox 360.
The PS3's major selling point besides free online gaming, from a gaming point of view, is without a doubt the multitude of high quality PS3 exclusive games. Games that push the limits of console gaming within the industry and can only be played on PS3 are franchise games like Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid, God Of War, Gran Turismo, Killzone, even genre defining unique games like LittleBigPlanet and many more. It doesn't end there though, as there's many high quality games which aren't designed to be franchises which are still only available on PS3 - games like Heavy Rain which is a game designed to be cinematic, gritty and tense, games like Heavenly Sword which despite the hilarious title and obvious nod to God Of War hack n slash gameplay is actually a very good game with amazing voice acting and facial expression technology. There are many, many high quality industry pushing games to be found only on PS3.
With constant updates the PS3 is guaranteed to be an up to the times high quality blu ray player which is legitimate full 1080p true High Definition and thanks to updates is now fully 3D enabled as well.
Which brings me to another point, which may be a little known one, the PS3 is a truly awesome multimedia machine - it will play photos, music, movies, dvd, blu ray all with amazing effect. But it doesn't stop there it has many audio features too like Dolby output, true 7.1 surround sound capability with HD audio and many other audio/visual features that make it a multimedia behemoth.
The PS3 really is a system that was designed be physically more powerful than the competition and to be enabled to slot into the living room and take care of every single aspect of electronic entertainment possible. And if you uptake every feature it offers, given the fact that it has an internet browser as well - it does just that.
One more thing, with PS3 you get everything you need right out of the box. You will not need to constantly use batteries which aren't supplied in order to use your system. The PS3 comes with a pad that doesn't use batteries and it comes with a universal USB charger. So you're not constantly pumping money at it in order to use it, just plug it in when it needs juice and you're off and away.
Best bang for the buck in my opinion is the PS3, and the PS3 in my opinion is the 1 truly indispensable gaming/entertainment machine out there including high end PC's - because for £200 you get a machine that does just about everything and you get access to free online and many high quality games which are not available anywhere else on any other platform. The only reason I include PC in that is because you'd be looking at least double the money for anything remotely similar in terms of power and certain features and you'd still be losing out on lots of high quality games which can only be played on PS3 systems. So PS3 is the 1 left standing in my book in terms of gaming and entertainment value for money and it does it's job wonderfully in my opinion.

Xbox OS beater? Nope, 29 Jan 2012

I just traded in my 250gb xbox slim for the new slim ps3 320gb and wow everything I took for granted on the xbox is lacking on the PS3!
You aren't able to install games for faster loading like you can on the xbox.
You aren't able to see your friends list straight away on the home screen like the xbox can.
You can't get Facebook, Youtube and 5OD like the xbox.
The PS3 really hangs between screens when loading and turning on always gets me a few seconds on a black screen.
Why do I have to sit through a screen giving me health warnings when I turn on the console?
I used to have a Ps3 when it first came out and the PS3 dashboard has not changed! just small tweeks here and there. The xbox 360 Dashboard has changed so much since it first started and is the best Operating System (OS) of any console.
But there are lost of reasons why I traded in my xbox :
The PS3 Bluray player - which is awesome.
The PS3 exclusives - like Uncharted and God of War - Wow.
The fact that I can charge up my Joypad from the PS3 is a excellent idea that the 360 should be doing.
A built in Power Supply Unit is great.
Its really quiet when running.
And the online play and BBC iplayer all free is great (I thought all PS3 stuff online was free - its not - some parts cost £39.99, but these really are worth it)
So I'm glad I traded to the PS3 - just wish the PS3 OS was as good!
