As brilliant as the new dualshock 4 controller is, you're gonna need to charge it regularly. You can charge it using the PS4's supplied USB cable, but this official charging station offers a much more elegant solution. Simply plug it into a mains socket and then click the controllers in place.
I measured the power usage and it draws 4 watts when charging one controller or 8 watts when charging two controllers, which is fine. A great feature is that you don't need to unplug the controllers once they are fully charged, because the charger goes into standby and stops drawing any power. My meter showed that the charger draws less than a watt in standby.
This charging station is a sturdy and well made unit, and my only criticism is that when you drop the controllers into place you have to jiggle them a little to make them click in. But this is a minor criticism of an otherwise superb product. Highly recommended!
