5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic, truly multimedia machine 30 Aug. 2012

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
What's left to be said about the Playstation3 that hasn't already been said? This 320GB slim version has replaced my old original 40GB PS3 system, which sadly developed the dreaded yellow-light-of-death problem, so it was time to get myself a new system.

Unfortunately, I used the PS3 as a central hub for all my photos as it's such a joy viewing photographs in such colourful clarity and detail on a large LCD or plasma screen. Massively fortunately though, the hair-dryer-around-the-back method of reheating the unit actually worked and I got the old girl booted up again. This enabled me to transfer all my existing data (photos, videos, game saves, downloaded content) onto the new system once it had arrived, was very quick - amazing service again, Amazon!

So what's so good about the PS3, or rather what do I personally get out of it that makes it such a good investment? First and foremost it's a great games machine, and with the increase of original Playstation games being available to play again it's so much fun playing the latest great games as well as those old classics, which aren't less enjoyable. I've just started re-playing Skyrim again so that'll be it for another few months, lol.

It's also a Blu-ray player, so I can enjoy high-definition movies and video on my TV. Awesome! It is also slowly becoming a depository for all my photos and video and the old music track, but with the ability to hook up to media servers it can stream data from my PC or laptop too.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a beast of a system! 6 Feb. 2012
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars

* Free, functional and efficient online gaming service

* The sheer amount of high quality PS3 exclusive games. Despite what certain groups might try to say to have you think otherwise, the fact is these games are truly the games that push the limits of all console gaming within the industry and that all these games are only found on the PS3 - This is simply because the PS3 has the power and space to be able to do what it's competition (though good in their own rights compared to PS3 in different aspects but power isn't one of them) are simply unable to do for lack thereof of the same reason. Also the frequency of release for PS3 exclusive games is very high so there's always games to play.

* With constant updates the PS3 is guaranteed to be an up to the times high quality blu ray player which is legitimate full 1080p true High Definition and thanks to updates is now fully 3D enabled as well.

* The PS3 is a truly awesome multimedia machine - it will play photos, music, movies, dvd and blu ray all with amazing effect. But it also has many audio features too like Dolby output, true 7.1 surround sound capability with HD audio.

* Given that it has Netflix, Lovefilm, free music video jukebox, BBC iPlayer (and ITV and Channel 4 equivalents) plus a basic but relatively functional internet browser all freely and readily available on the desktop menu plus all of the multimedia features previously mentioned - it's not difficult to see how it would be an indispensable entertainment machine for a lot of people nowadays. It certainly is for me.

* With PS3 you will NOT need to constantly use batteries which aren't supplied in order to use your system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 4 Jun. 2012

Excellent console, game play and graphics are unparalleled. Only reason for giving it 4* is lack of PS2 compatibility, having saved some old classics, which can no longer be used!

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent Playstation 18 Dec. 2013

I am a Playstation gamer through and through. I'd had my original 60GB PS for years and years, so when it finally died the choice of which console to replace it with was a tough one.
The original Fat PS's were plagued with the YLOD and the new Super Slim's just felt a bit cheap. So I opted for this, the 320GB slim. It is an excellent console, much smaller in form factor over its predecessor and much quieter too. It feels sturdy, with enough build quality to last.
The only criticism I have is of the blu-ray drive, which in this model seems to be much louder than in the FAT model's. Other than that, an excellent console.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing!!! 27 April 2013
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I have had this Console for the past 3 years, and it has never let me down in performance. Some may say that the Xbox 360 is better but I have to disagree because the Playstation 3 has pretty much the same graphics if not better than the Xbox 360. Don't get me wrong the Xbox 360 is a great console with a very large community but it could've had an even larger community if you didn't have to pay to get acces to play online with your freinds or get microsoft points to buy new games, because with The PS3 you get everything the Xbox 360 does and more for a much lower amount of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Far superior to older models. 25 Nov. 2012

Up until last year I had an ancient 'fat' 40GB PS3 which eventually died having suffered an Xbox red ring of death style fault. It had lasted about 3 years, it was noisy, had very little memory and very occasionally crashed. I was deliberating buying a new PS3 or an Xbox 360. A friend donated me an Xbox 360 and having been severely annoyed by Microsoft's management of Xbox Live, I opted to go for the PS3. I haven't been disappointed.

The new slim line 320GB version is sleek compared to the tank like XBox, it is very quiet, unobtrusive and is genuinely a pleasure to have. Apart from being smaller than the originals it's cooling system is better and it seems to run more efficiently. Playstation Network, is free and in my opinion better than Xbox Live, which was painful to manage (in addition, to cancel your XBox Live you have better luck getting blood out of stone and Microsoft will grill you for reasons why).
I was quickly able to install my previous downloads which I had spent money on in the past. The storage size is huge and having installed Red Dead Redemption and its subsequent expansion packs it hasn't even taken up 5% of the capacity. It would have killed my previous one. The controllers are smaller and I feel better suited to the hand than the bulky Xbox pads. Plus they can be charged via USB rather than replacing the batteries as standard. That said this is more a personal preference than a design fault. The games you can buy are more or less identical for either console, so it's really a matter of what suits you as an individual.

The only downsides to the PS3 is that you are constantly having to install software updates to the point it becomes frustrating. Xbox has these too but they are far less frequent.
