My first was an iPAQ (original) after adding an expansion pack...the size got a bil unruly....so this purchase was about portability and quality.
The good stuf...
Small. Slim. Beautifully formed. I am talking about the TJ35!
Great build. MP3 playback from memory stick...good quality. Normal size headphone out (3.5mm). Nice supplied sideflip cover. Memory stick pro slot (up to 1GB). Palm OS5.2. (much prefer grafiti 2 and decuma to the old Palm stuff) Snappy 200MHz processor. Decent sony software bundle.
Problems so far....
Battery life only average. 23MB of available RAM (bit stingy)
Screen apparently not as bright as Tungsten E (but to be honest plenty bright enough)
No video player or documents to go as part of software bundle.
MP3 player and ext speaker not that loud.
No memory stick supplied (not a problem for me)
Some may want a cradle to sync, which is not supplied...I prefer the USB lead myself.
There have been a few backlight problems with this model...but they have been sorted out by Sony.
Wish....For sony to integrate bluetooth into a PDA of this size and form factor. And better battery life. Then they'd have a real winner.
All in all....great PDA (with usual Sony design flair) for those who want a light, small, good quality PDA to take anywhere. Highly recommended...at this price!
Build quality of the unit - 5 (coming from a critical engineer)
Display - 5
Ergonomics/ ease of use - 5 (neat little 'hold' switch turns off screen and imobilises other buttons. I don't like the jog dial functions so I just use the regular palmOS menus)
Battery life - 4 (800mAh was enough for 8 hours of mp3 playback)
Accessories - 3 (Flip open cover is excellent- protects screen and extra strengthening ribs prevent unintentional operation of buttons. Hand strap prevents those costly drops - my old \visor bounced. I would have preferred a palm type combined docking cradle/ charger. I too, ref previous review, can see the supplied connectors falling apart... just outside the guarantee period ;-) )
Supplied software - 2 (the aeroplayer Mp3 player is about the only useful bit of value added software, but even this does not have any EQ controls. I've had to buy 'docs2go' and have downloaded acrobat reader and 'today v1.8')
Omniremote won't run on this device so don't think you'll be able to use this Clie as a remote.
Sony should bring out another model with built in mic.
All in all the Clie is my favourite useful gadget of all time and it's small and robust enough to live in my jacket pocket.
