Running Palm OS 5 on an Intel PXA263 processor, running at 200MHz, the NX73V has 16 MB or RAM and a 300K pixel camera that supports up to 640 x 480 resolution. However, it's the screen that is the biggest attention-grabber as its capable of 320 pixels of width and 480 of length if you shrink the Graffiti area. Viewing diary dates, or reading files using the supplied Picsel Viewer, which can cope with document types including HTML, PDF and Microsoft Word is a positive experience because the display format is closer to the "portrait" orientation of standard paper and therefore feels better than more usual squarer Palm PDA screens.
There's plenty of other software provided by Sony, which is pre-installed so you don't need to take up any of the RAM to use it. The range runs from an MP3 and ATRAC3 player to an infra red remote control, world alarm clock, handwriting recognition software, digital video and stills viewers, e-mail and SMS applications and software for taking still and moving images with the built-in camera. There is no flash, but you can make settings for indoor and outdoor shots, which should help you get the most out of your images.
There are both Compact Flash and Memory Stick card slots, Bluetooth is built-in, and as is usual with this range from Sony, there is a tiny thumb-tappable keyboard, which, if your fingers are small enough, you can use pretty effectively.
This is an expensive, top-of-the-range Clié, which has plenty of multimedia capability but could also be used to good effect at work. --Sandra Vogel

Pros:
1. Silver casing reflects luxury and modern design
2. Wing-type swivel screen provides alternative angle and
comfort for the palm users.
3. Screen and pixel are more improved than the later NX70v and
SL series
4. MP/ATRAC3 player is the best built-in in all PDA series.
5. High resolution screen 320x480 is better than Pocket PCs!
6. Compatible with Memory Stick PRO while other models needed
updates.
7. Retractable Stylus is very convenient to use and slide into
the side of the unit.
8. The PEGA-CA92 leather case exclusive for NX73v is very
unique and gorgeous too.
Cons:
1. Battery limit is very limited, not for serious users that
uses it Clie more than 1hr a day will full blast function.
2. A rather 'basic' and 'simple' digital camera, only 310k
pixel. Surely SONY can improve and provide a flash for the
NX73v like the US NX80v.
3. Stubby keyboard buttons, too 'cute' and roundy, makes typing
clumsy.
4. Limited RAM only 16MB. LOTS of room for improvements.
Great gadget to own for middle class users! An all in one device. Awarded 4 STAR!
I have a couple of reservations about some of the software. Sonic Stage, which is the PC based agent for downloading ATRAC music to the Clie, won't work with Memory stick Pro media even though said media are Magic Gate ready. Not too clear to me why this is the case, but it was confirmed by Sony support. Sonic Stage does work well with the standard Magic Gate memory sticks.
It is also worth noting that the Audio player will play quite a wide range of MP3s, up to 300bps I think, but not all the recorded speeds you can download from the web. This means that you will need pc-based software to convert MP3s recorded at higher speeds than this (I use Nero). Both of the above restrictions are noted in the (very good) user documentation so it is worth reading before playing!
I have also noticed that the Graffiti handwriting software can be hesitant when the Clie is in 'flipped' mode. It is almost like it is having to think about things when then screen is effectively upside down. A bit disconcerting and it doesn't seem to happen when the Clie is opened in its clamshell mode.
Bluetooth worked first time with my phone, so no problems there. I have also bought the wireless card and it works very well both with my home wireless network and with BT's public wifi network. It is worth noting that not all the software can use the wireless facility however. WWW access and hotsynch do, but not the music download, for example.
To summarise, this is a fine piece of kit with a couple of (minor) operational quirks, which is why I stuck at ****. 4.5 might have been fairer.
Otherwise, it's a great bit of kit, easy to use, seriously desirable, beautifully made and has a thousand different uses. Just lovely, and I mean lovely.
