I used to have a much older model of the same range, from about 5 years ago. On the downside the older one required Sonicstage to add music to it, but the battery life was incredible, I got a Sony silicone skin for it, the controls were perfectly placed and, generally, it gave me half a decade of listening pleasure.
I expected the same or better from the newer model. Yes, it now has a simple drag-and-drop facility for adding music (so no more Sonicstage, which is a definite plus) but: controls are all over the place, not ideal if you just want to reach into your pocket and skip a song; the battery life actually seems to be worse than its pre-pre-predecessor; it actually crashes - about once a week - and I have had to put a small black safety pin around the earphone cable so I can poke the reset button when necessary (it just suddenly locks up and produces a constant, awful buzzing tone). All in all, while it is usable, it is a great disappointment and next time I will probably be looking for something else.

Well impressed with Sony MP3 player and reasonably priced as well. Just what I wanted, listen to music in office and in the car and this one does the job to perfection. Some people complain about volume levels but for me it is more than enough for two reasons 1) I don't listen to rock music etc so I am very happy about the volume levels 2) it is much safer now that I know my ears won't be blown off however loud I put the volume. People don't realise how dangerous it is to our ears when you put too much strain on your own ears. I think Sony has done a good job. If I buy an MP3 player as a gift to anyone it will be a Sony MP3 as I can be assured that it won't blow off anybody's ears. Having said that not sure why people complain because to me volume was loud enough and I normally put them in about 65-70 % of maximum volume.

Excellent sound quality (I don't use the ear-buds, I plug it into my car stereo), small and neat
The controls are a bit small and can be a little fiddly (but then again, it is sold as a very small and light mp3 player)
Copying the MP3's onto the Walkman:
1) Works well when transferring mp3's from Windows Media Player
2) A little troublesome when copying MP3's directly using Windows Explorer (if you delete or rename files on the Walkman, the changes don't always show unless you remove the walkman from the usb port, turn the walkman on and off, and re-insert - just using F5 to refresh Windows Explorer doesn't work)
