Well this is Sony's latest offering in there Walkman series the all new A Series is a funky little MP3 player packed with great features! The A series sports a super responsive 2.8 touch screen so make browsing through your music collection as simple as A B C. The Sony user interface is much the same as the previous walkman range with the icons in a grid fashion on the screen which keeps things really simple. Where the new A series walkman comes into its own is the premium sound quality for audiophiles from the S-Master MX digital amplifier Bluetooth to stream your music to your car stereo or compatible wireless headphones and the Media Go application which allows you to simply drag and drop music from your computer onto the device. A bit more technical.. Compressing a music file to make an MP3 file has some drawbacks the main things you'll notice when listening to MP3 as opposed to a live recording is clarity and balance have been sacrificed slightly and there will be an element of distortion. Sony set their sound engineers to work on rectifying this to try and bring back the qualities lost in compression so to speak. The new Sony NWZ-A867 has 5 clear audio technologies to give you the best possible listening experience there is the S-Master MX digital amplifier for great clarity of sound Clear stereo which provides channel separation for a better stereo experience Clear Bass which enhances the bass performance reducing distortion at high volume DSEE which restores the high frequencies lost during audio compression these technologies together with the EX300 headphones makes your music as faithful to the original recording as possible. The only thing of importance to me when choosing a portable media player is sound quality. I am not interested in the player's ability to play videos, display photos or connect to the internet and so on. This was the reason for purchasing a couple of years ago the excellent 32GB X series Walkman. The sound from this player was the best I had ever heard. Apart from a doubling of storage space to 64GB I wondered whether there would be sufficient audio improvements to justify the upgrade to this new A series. The answer is an emphatic Yes. The sound is clearer and more detailed than the X series and bass is deep but tight and controlled. Unlike a lot of players on the market the earphones supplied are high quality noise isolating so there is absolutely no reason to spend a fortune on replacements. Ensure however that you select the correct buds for your ears as these not only isolate external noise to the maximum but also ensure you get the correct level of bass. I have also personally found as with the X series that the "unique" sound setting brings the best out of whatever type of music you are listening to. Given this player's audio capabilities I would recommend compressing music at the "best quality" setting of 320kbps. Looks and build quality are also excellent and I have no hesitation giving this player 5 stars.

I love this player. I already have a 64gb itouch which I only bought because there wasn't a better 64gb offering around at the time. However, I asked for this for my birthday and having only it had it for a day I couldn't be more pleased. I can't fault it in any way. It is compact and well made but light. The sound quality kicks my itouch into touch and it synced with my laptop via Windows media player without any hitch. Music downloaded quickly and easily. The interface is a joy. So, if you are looking for a quality MP3 player not lots of pointless "features" that you'll never use then this is a very good choice.
20/12 - I have dropped a star from my previous review as I have since discovered that the player does not support gapless playback so if you listen to a mix CD there is a small blip in the sound as it changes tracks. This does not happen on my itouch or my Galaxy SII so really I have to say this is a big thumbs down for Sony and really takes the benefit away from this as being a great MP3 player. I was tempted to return this because I listen to a lot of mix CD's, but I can probably address this by creating gapless audio files using a music eitor and the sound quality is excellent. However, if you can't be bothered doing this and want to play mix CD's you may be better off with another player.

If you want a portable music player that concentrates on the music then this is a fantastic choice. The sound quality is fantastic and to me that is the most important thing.
The player is easy to use and transferring my collection of 40GB was simple and pretty quick.
The touchscreen is responsive and accurate and navigating the menus is quick and easy and the battery life is good. The walkman is well built and has the feel of a quality product.
