If you buy this item brand new, it should come in a plastic vacuum package typical of Sony products so it should be well protected during transport. Upon taking it out, it feels like a very robust piece of hardware but at the same time is lightweight.
The cards sit nicely in the slots which are a lot better compared with other readers I have used (notably one I bought from Jessops where after prolonged use, the card would no longer sit tightly in the slot and the contact pins wouldn't meet the card).
The USB cable it comes supplied with is just the right length so you do not have coils of wires over your desk but you get enough lead to place the reader where you need it.
Altogether from my experience of it so far, it meets up to the quality I would expect from a brand such as Sony. Recommended.

I bought this for a new computer build; after a lot of research I decided that in mid-2010 it wasn't clear which internal cards would work on Windows 7 x64, so I would need a safer option. Even going for external readers seems a bit touch and go, but research pointed me at the Sony which works straight away. I only use SD cards and the odd CF both of which work fine on this.

Excellent product for the price ,very well made compared to the cheaper card readers(to which I've had a few) Also the card slots in without any trouble,first time,
unlike others where you have to push,take out try again and then bent pins lol

Good for the job
The reader arrived in good time and was well packaged. It was what I needed to read various cards and seems to work well and is plug and play.
