Since the premature demise of the fantastic Flip brand (shame on you Cisco!) there's been a bit of a vacuum in the pocket video camera area.
One of the reasons Flip was canned was because more and more people have video cameras on their phones - but I think that's still a minority. And anyway, sometimes you need a dedicated device - there's so much on my iPhone already that it doesn't take long for me to run out of space.
This camera from Sony is remarkably cheap and I rather like it. The quality of the video is good although it isn't as good as that on the iPhone 4 (or the new 4S which is even better, particularly with its built-in stabilisation) and it suffers from being fixed focus. But as most people won't be shooting masterpieces with it, that probably won't matter.
To charge it you'll need either a computer nearby or a USB charging device (an iPhone or Kindle plug will do it, or you can easily buy one - I recommend it.)
My only real complaint is that you have to hold the camera landscape - Flips were great because you could hold them firmly in your hand and the video would be landscape, but with this your grip is a lot less certain, more likely to introduce stabilisation problems.
Opening up the files in iMovie on the Mac are no problem. I haven't used the built-in sharing features because I use iMovie. Video looks good on a large screen TV too.

So if you're short of space on your phone or the camera isn't up to snuff, this is a good cheap and dedicated alternative.

The Bloggie is a really convenient and practical way of recording HD video and is ideal for capturing those ad-hoc moments where you wouldn't want or intend to be carrying around a video camera. The results obviously aren't as good as a more expensive HD camcorder but it would be unfair to expect so.

The camera boots up in a little under three seconds and you can go from switched off to recording in around five seconds. For best results, I'd recommend a mini tripod to be used wherever possible as due to its small size the Bloggie is extremely sensitive to any hand movements. The on screen menus are straight forward and easily mastered, so even the none technically minded shouldn't have any problems operating it.

What I really like however was the sheer ease that the videos were able to be copied from the Bloggie to PC. The inbuilt usb connector was simply plugged in, the Bloggie shows up as an external hard drive and the videos can be quickly copied and pasted to your desktop for instant playback. Easily done...! From there you can even delete the videos from the Bloggie.

So to conclude. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for decent hd video results, but if you have a decent video camera on your mobile phone then stick with it as you won't see any major improvements. It's ideal for parents to carry in their pockets for impromptu moments that children can provide, it's great for parties and nights out when carrying a full size camcorder could be a chore. However it best performs in natural light as opposed to artificial. For the money this is a great little camera which doesn't disappoint.

Colour Name:White|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I've been playing with my little Sony camcorder for a few days now and am very impressed. I'm breaking this down into a few sections which I hope will simplify the review.
1. Getting started: It's all very straight forward. You connect the camcorder to your computer and install all the software you need to start downloading your video and photos. You can also download the users manual. According to the box it should include software for both PCs and Macs. In my case there was no Mac software, but that is very easy to resolve as a quick Google search for 'Sony Bloggie software for Mac' took me to the download page on the Sony website from where I downloaded it. I should add that you don't need to use the Sony software anyway. I have Aperture on my Mac and am able to download straight to it from the Bloggie. Using what you're used to is probably the easiest option over the Sony offering.
2. Ease of use: It's very straight forward again. A quick read of the instructions and 10 minutes playing about and I was fully up to speed. You set your preferences to how you want it to shoot and after that it's just a case of pressing one button to start filming. You get the options of film quality such as HD or HD Sports, and also the type of jpeg you want when using it as a camera. I rather like the feature of being able to take a jpeg snapshot whilst using it as a movie camera.
3. Results: I'm very impressed with the quality. On HD Sports mode I've used it in dim light conditions and had nothing but bright and clear footage that is smooth and sharp. The auto focus seems very quick to adjust. I've filmed cyclists racing along a path and also very close up footage of a butterfly and the camcorder copes brilliantly. The camera option is not really that special, not as good as an iphone, but OK for quick snaps, but then I didn't get this for stills.

All in all this is an excellent little camcorder which is no bigger than a mobile phone which shoots very high quality video, and I'm delighted with it.
