Having never buying Sony headphones (mostly earphones) these have been the best for sound quality at a very respectable price. They produce excellent, rumbing, vibrating bass only if you up the volume to 75% on an iPod. They produce very detailed mids, and the high trembles are very slightly piercing at high volumes, but good enough for an audiophile like me to overlook.

The build quality isn't the best, the headband is cheap plastic and bends quite easily. The drivers themselves are covered by cheap plastic, but do feature a nice texture alongside the Sony logo. They look like they cost a lot, but don't feel it. Sony put all the money on the sound. As for comfort, the ear padding is acceptable, and are comfortable for up to three hours non-stop use, they the ears or the top of the head begin to ache.

Overall, for £18 (currently) I have to say that these are by far the best quality for money. I would reccommend these for at home usage at a desktop or laptop, they are ok for walking, but havent been manufactured to support that. Get them, while their cheap and very much cheerful!

For 15 quid I wasn't expecting much but these are certainty something, they reproduce sound just as good as my Sony 50 pound set of earplugs, work great on a plane and look the part, would definitely recommend

I consider myself an audiophile, so it felt rather counter-intuitive of me to buy these headphones. However, I needed something for my rapid tube commute and figured that - for forty minutes per day - I could live with the compromises that come with headphones that are super budget. I'd recently tried the SoundMAGIC E10 Earphones - Silver/Black but I found them too uncomfortable on my skinny ears. So, I set my budget at around £20 and considered the available headphones.

At this price point the MDR-ZX310s have the following notable competition:
Sennheiser HD201 Closed Dynamic Stereo headphones
Sennheiser HD 202 Closed Back On-Ear Stereo Headphone
Sony Noise Isolating Headphones with Smartphone Control, Mic, Cord - Black/White (MDR-ZX610)

Out of the four, these headphones have the worst sound straight out of the box. I think the HD201s and the MDR-ZX610s (the Sony model above the ones reviewed here) sound joint best, with the HD202s a close second place.

Why, then, did I buy the worst sounding pair? Well, they are - in my opinion - the most comfortable of the four, the best suited for commuting (lightweight and compact), and match my personal aesthetics.

Worked fine for about a month until the cable snapped up by one of the headphones. Rendering them useless. often had problems with the audio not always coming through

I'm happy with these headphones. I bought them because they were cheap yet made by a reputable company and hoped they would provide a decent sound. They do. They aren't they sturdiest set of cans going, but for the price, I reckon you get more than you pay for. The sound is a little muddy, but they do the job and have happily listened to a variety of music on a few different devices with these (iPod, iPad, phone) All in all a satisfactory set of headphones from Sony at a nice price.

I got tired of taping up my old Sony MDR-V 150s and thought I would go for the ZX310s. Now the 150s were a low cost but neutral sounding pair of headphones that I have used on many recordings and re-mixes. I thought these ZX310s would be a safe upgrade but I was shocked by what I heard - muffled treble (loss of detail especially in cymbals and upper frequency content of guitars). It sounds like a blanket has been draped over all the instruments !

Just imagine a pair of headphones actually designed to suck all the life out of music !

What a disappointment... In addition the cable is shorter than the 150 and no gold plated adapter included (as on the cheaper 150). They don't feel comfortable either.

To anyone who has the slightest in interest in musical fidelity, avoid these headphones like the plague !

Very happy with these headphone. I bought them because the little headphone that go into the ear hurt me too much, so I wanted to small pair of headphones that could collapse, or in this case fold, so they take up less space. Very handy. I use these mostly for when I'm doing waking night shifts and they really do come in handy. They are really good quality, better than what I was expecting, almost like being at the cinema but having the speakers on your ears if you are watching a movie. And the quality when playing music is brilliant too! Would highly recommend if you want a decent pair of headphone that are good quality.
