I bought a set of these headphones in Japan 2 years ago.
they are great, the buttons on the side of them retract the cable inside, by use of a spring. one headphone does the cable to the plug, the other one, the cable to the other headphone. This is a great invention, it stops that 10mins of untangling headphones and cable when stored in pocket.
Just pull the cable out and wear them, the locking mechanism on the arm stops the cable retracting back when on your ear.
take them off, press both buttons and easy storage.
Unfortuantly, i had an accident where i caught the cable on something and i lose sound in one earphone (probably broke the cable inside). so im buying a pair again.
great!!

I bought these headphones because the in-the-ear headphones that came with my mp3 player kept falling out of my ears as I listened and walked, so I thought these would be better. I've had them two days so far and they've turned out to be a bit of a dissappointment. the retractable wires are brilliant, really tidy and easy to transport, but if you're thinking about getting these it might be worth checking they'll fit your ears, because my ears seem to be the wrong shape and the 'phones keep falling off - more than my old pair did. They also give off a lot of sound, so could annoy other people if you often listen in places with other people (like trains or queues). The benefits are they are really small and the wire seems good and strong (it's got a fabric-like covering) and, i'll repeat, the retracableness of it is really usefull, but if you have small ears (or wear earrings a lot) it might be worth finding band-headphones, or ones with more flexible clips (these are rigid plastic and the hinge cannot be tightend).
hope this helps!

This is an honest no BS review. Let me explain. I needed a pair of headphones that would firstly, stay on my ears when I go running and secondly, give a superior sound quality than the one produced by the basic iPod earphones. Like you I came across theses stylish, ingenious top brand headphones and was subsequently impressed by the previous reviews, price tag and functionality. However, despite the fantastic retractable cord feature these headphones disappointed me on several counts.
A) Surprisingly, the sound is poorer than the basic IPod earphones. (Quieter, tinny)
B) The retractable cord although perfectly designed is delicate and not capable of withstanding constant rigorous movement, i.e. running.
C) The actual earpiece sits to loosely against the ear allowing unnecessary outside noise into your ear and therefore allowing your music to be heard by all around you i.e. bus, train etc.
Basically if you want to spend money on these be aware that they are far from being an upgrade from the standard iPod earphones. Hope this helps.

I'm about to purchase my second pair of these. The first pair I bought in 2005 from HMV in Glasgow and have lasted me this long. I think that's pretty reasonable which is why I'm buying the exact same pair again.

They fit comfortably (for me) over the ear, as I find in the ear very uncomfortable.

The cables retract using a button and spring like mechanism meaning you avoid that snakes wedding you get with other ear phones.

The sound quality is excellent and you can have your music fairly loud without bothering other people. I regularly check with fellow train passengers to make sure they can't hear anything and usually that's the case.

They take a good battering too - there's many times I've had one of the over ear pieces pulled off my ear when getting the cable caught on something and assuming they were broken I was then please to find they weren't.

My 2005 pair have only stopped work in the last week, with one of the ear's not working properly and having to swizzle the jack in the socket.

I couldn't recommend these more.

I'm about to buy my 2nd pair of these, as my current pair have just broken after 3 years of heavy use - to be expected really. These headphones are not perfect, but I find them absolutely brilliant for cycling to work for two main reasons:
1. They never fall off my ears - a major issue with cycling with headphones.
2. They let in enough outside sound to enable me to hear the road - so I don't end up under a bus I didn't hear. This does however mean that they also let out quite a bit of sound, so I don't like to have them cranked up to full blast on a bus. Plus you can still hear the baby crying behind you pretty well.

The sound quality is pretty good, although the bass is lost a little as they don't press onto your ears very tightly.

As for the retracting cable feature - that's probably the best feature of any headphones ever. As well as never having to spend 10 minutes removing your keys from your headphones, it means you always have the exact amount of wire that you need. Real handy if, like me, you use your phone hands free kit with the mic/remote bit clipped to your collar.
