Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

These MDR-NC33 in-ear Digital Noise Cancelling headphones from Sony let you enjoy your music on the move without the distraction of everyday background noise. Whether you're travelling, commuting or working at the office, active noise cancelling technology reduces 90 per cent of ambient noise*, providing you with a quieter environment to enhance your audio experience.

The lightweight 7 gram MDR-NC33 in-ear headphones combine style with practicality. Silicone earbuds come in a range of sizes to provide the perfect fit with minimum sound leakage. They sit comfortably in the ear, even during extended use.

Hear your music, nothing else
Advanced Artificial Intelligent Noise Cancelling automatically monitors your environment to find the right anti-noise profile. The headphones have an inside microphone on each earpiece that works with an electronic circuitry to create an opposite sound wave to reduce incoming noise. A convenient monitor switch allows you to minimize your audio and listen to conversation. When noise cancellation isn't necessary, the passive feature lets you operate these earbuds as regular stereo headphones without using any battery power.

Active noise cancelling technology reduces
90 per cent of ambient noise*

Crisp, clear and powerful sound
The high power 13.5mm Neodymium driver found inside the MDR-NC33 headphones is super powerful, and delivers a wider frequency response to your ears - reproducing deep bass, dynamic vocals and clear treble sound. It has a frequency response of 10Hz - 22,000Hz and a sensitivity of 98dB/mW (NC ON) and 99dB/mW (NC OFF) so you can enjoy crisp, warm audio at any volume.

Turn on, switch off
If you need to interrupt your listening, to hear an in-flight announcement for example, simply flick the switch to turn off Digital Noise Cancelling. The convenient monitor switch allows you to stay aware of your surroundings, whenever you need to, then swap seamlessly back to your music.

Listen without interruptions
Enjoy approximately 100 hours of noise cancelling functionality from a single alkaline (size AAA) battery** (included) and at least 50 hours with a rechargeable battery. This battery stamina is way ahead of the competition. And if you switch the noise cancelling circuitry off you can enjoy the same sound quality without using any battery power. For long journeys, it's reassuring to know that changing batteries will be one less thing to think about.

Interchangeable silicon buds guarantee
great sound isolation and total comfort.

Fits all ear sizes
When you're wearing in-ear headphones you need them to be so comfortable you barely notice them. The MDR-NC33 headphones come with three sizes of hybrid silicone earbuds (S/M/L) for a more secure, custom fit. The interchangeable buds guarantee great sound isolation and total comfort.

Listen for longer in stylish comfort
A durable and lightweight Y-type cord completes the package. The cord's 1.5m long, letting you move around and mix it up without getting in a tangle. Put all this together and the MDR-NC33 in-ear headphones are still amazingly light at around 7 grams, making them easy to wear, and carry.

Your MDR-NC33 headphones come with an in-flight plug adaptor*** and carrying pouch so you know they're ready for use and safely tucked away for your next journey.

* Ambient noise reduction compared to no headphones. Cancellation ration is based on energy of sound measured over broad spectrum frequency range 20Hz to 20kHz.

** Using 1 Alkaline LR03/AM-4(N) (size AAA) battery (included). Time stated may vary based on temperature or conditions of use. . Actual time may vary based on product settings, usage patterns, battery and environmental conditions.

*** May not be compatible with some in-flight audio/video services.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice, it's really cancel the noise 2 Mar 2010
By MM UK
I bought this couple of weeks ago; I have to say this is brilliant ear-phone. I use this on daily basis to listening to the music from my Nokia N97 while I travel on London Tube, the noise cancellation is really working and I have to say it cancel 90% of noise but not voices. However this is noise cancelling device not a voice cancelling. I haven't had opportunity to use this on aircraft but I am 100% sure it will cancel aircraft noise effectively as it's do on Tube and trains. Overall I am very happy with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Effective 2 April 2010
By Olly
We bought these mainly for my wife to use on a return flight to Australia.
She says they don't cut out all the noise, but did cut out 90% of the drone and background noise, and this allowed her to get some good sleep in on the flight. She also said that when listening to music or a film on the flight she was able to have the volume turned right down. Normally you need to have the volume high so you can hear over the sound of the plane, but as the Noise Cancelling was effective she could listen at low volume, and didn't end up the headache that you can sometimes get when the volume is turned up too much. Money well spent by all accounts.
I've also been using them at work, and I agree with her. They cut out a lot of the background hubub of the busy open plan office that I work in, and give me a chance of concentrating and keeping my train of thought.
Note:
To be effective you MUST use the correct size of rubber plug, and make sure that the earpiece is a very snug fit in your ear. Don't worry - when the electronics are switched off you'll still be able to hear what's going on outside, but when they're turned on they are VERY effective, but only if the plugs are a snug fit.

Hope this helps someone out there to make their decision.

4.0 out of 5 stars High quality through-out 18 Jan 2010
Even opening the packaging was easy - two flaps at the back undo it all; no need for scissors and and frustration!

It comes with a felt pouch, alternative ear bud covers (small and large) and flight-adapter (so there's no need to buy an additional flight-adapter as many buyers seem to do). The ear-buds are brightly labeled L and R in silver and red respectively.

Even the alternative ear bud covers are colour coded (small / med / large)!

(Noise-cancelling off): Sound is exactly as I'd expect from high-end Sony ear-buds, clear with surprisingly warm bass. I am comparing to Sony MDR-EX75.

Turn on noise-cancelling and your music volume decreases slightly, but the background noise really does melt away, leaving just a hint of pink noise in its place - definitely an improvement!
